Future In-law Appreciation Post

Megan, on October 7, 2019 at 10:38 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 4
So my future in-laws are thrilled that their first son is marrying me. We have good relationships, and I’m able to be close with them in ways that I’m not able to be with my own parents, which is really amazing & I’m so thankful for.

So now a little bit about how my FILs are amazing:

1. FH and I have been talking about taking dance lessons for about 2 years now. Nothing crazy, just enough to feel more comfortable when we go out. When we got engaged, we decided the wedding was a perfect excuse to finally take lessons.... so at our recent engagement brunch, his parents give us their gift...a handmade “coupon” for dance lessons, at the dance studio of our choice. (His dad made the coupon himself on PowerPoint while he was at work!) It is the CUTEST thing. And also.....so freaking thoughtful!!! I cried.

2. Our reception ends at 9 pm. We were a little disappointed about this at first since it seems early, so we wanted to make sure we could keep the party going for whoever wants to stay out, maybe back at the hotel bar. Well it turns out there’s an awesome brewery that’s open late, 1 mile down the street from our venue. We decided we wanted to have an after party here (we are VERY excited about this. I wanted a more intimate affair anyway, so by this time it’ll just be our close friends & family). ANYWAY we visited the brewery, got details about it (no venue fee woot woot!), and mentioned this all to both sets of parents as an FYI.
Last week, I get a text from FH’s parents. They went to the brewery for dinner, talked to the manager, said they were there to plan the after party for me, and got us hooked up with the balcony that’s there, games, and I don’t even know what else. I was in shock. It was SUCH a surprise and SO GENEROUS.

I’m floored by how amazing they are and how much they’re helping us out. These gifts are not just helping us monetarily, but they’re taking care of stuff for us that would have stressed me out, and they’re so meaningful!

Wow this was long. Sorry for the long read! Thanks if you made it through.

TL;DR: My future in-laws bought us dance lessons and an after party at a brewery, all to make us happy. I love them to pieces!

Anyone else have some in-law love?

How about Former In-Laws.... My former MIL is helping towards the wedding...not much, but equal to what she contributed to her son's (not my ex) second marriage, and my former FIL is walking me down the aisle. As you can guess, we are still reallyclose.

    In terms of little things:

MIL just tagged me for daughter's day on FB, from abroad, to make sure I was included. I am estranged from my own mother and she is, too, so she made a point of posting a picture of me from the wedding.

It seems so little, but it's an inclusive gesture that means the world to me.

My in-laws also hosted a killer rehearsal dinner in their own apartment, helped us with the venue hunt, and then gave us a gift that was above and beyond. (Suffice to say it's altered our timeline of starting a family in a good way.)

Aw, that’s so sweet! I’m sure that meant a lot to you! And you are her daughter now!! But I know what you mean...it’s a small gesture but so kind.

    And congratulations! That’s very exciting!
