Full Slip

Kelly, on August 29, 2019 at 9:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
Does/did anyone else have/had a very full slip for an align dress? I had my first dress fitting & forgot that I bought such a full slip. It’s really full! The seamstress said that it made the dress looks better... but I’m not sure how I feel about having so much fullness.
For those of you who had an align dress did you wear a full slip?

I considered it but my fiance hates ball gowns and after looking at the pictures I realized I like the look of the princess Aline look better, personally to me I thought it looked more elegant especially with the details around the waist of my dress

    Full Slip 1

At first daughter really wanted one, but her a-line dress had a fairly full skirt on it's own and several layers of very stiff tulle in the attached underskirt (when her dress came in it was MUCH more stiff/full than the sample had been, undoubtedly because the sample had been tried on dozens of times and hanging for at least a year). She had fun dancing around the bridal salon with the really full slip underneath her dress, but realized FH (and everyone else) wouldn't be able to get within 4' of her because the skirt stuck out SO much. Ultimately, she didn't add any slip and her dress was PLENTY full with just the tulle under layers. The photo is her dress bustled and shows how full her skirt was without a slip....

I did get a petticoat without much fullness, just enough for the layers of tulle on my dress to sit the way I want them to. I will definitely wear it for the ceremony but might take it off once the serious dancing begins.

I skipped a slip. I got married in August and it was 97 degrees on my wedding day. My dress was hot enough as it was, I didn't need/want any extra layers Smiley laugh

Wow! That dress is beautiful & you are right plenty full! I love that bustle - is it a 1/2 French, 1/2 American?

Your dress is beautiful & perfect for a summer wedding. I 100% agree if I was getting married in the summer I would not even consider the slip (watch I’ll get married on the hottest day ever recorded in October).

That’s might be what I got... I’m not great w/ the vocab. Lol. That’s not a bad idea either - take it off when the reception really starts.

I tried my dress on with the ball gown slip and loved it, but after looking at the picture on phone a million times, i realized I didn't like the way it looked on me lol so i retried it on with the a line slip instead lol I'm 4ft 9in tall so the ball gown look made me look silly lol

Do you have a picture with the a line slip? I really like the dress with the belt!! I like how it gives the fullness at the bottom of the dress. Maybe try on the dress with the a line slip if you can, I personally think all you need is the fullness at the bottom of the dress, do you need to get the dress hemmed?

The second picture is with the only slip that I have. Hmm - I’m not sure if I have a full slip or an aline slip. The dress is at the seamstress getting hemmed as we speak lol my next appt. is the 13th.
Thanks! The belt is actually a family heirloom in the making. It was my cousins, and I’m wearing it for my wedding, & the hope is that her daughter will wear it for hers. It was important to me that I wore the belt, so I picked a dress that I liked & thought worked well with the belt.

With that dress you might not even need a slip once it's hemmed, it also could be that you weren't wearing the belt with the dress which in my opinion looks like it completes the dress! your dress is gorgeous btw.

Yes! The under layers were a 3-point under bustle and the lace and tulle over layers were a 3-point over bustle. Daughter got dancing a little crazy later in the night and I think she got stepped on and the over bustle loops broke. We ended up using big safety pins to make up for the broken loops and she was back on the floor in minutes! Smiley winking It was a beautiful dress -- Rebecca Ingram Allison.... Smiley heart
