fsil doing hair

Anyone else having a friend do their hair for their wedding? My FSIL does hair (went to hair school as well) and I asked if she would do my hair for the wedding. I’m looking to do a low bun with a little texture and some loose curls left out in the front. I’m happy not to have to pay the $175 to have my makeup artist do my hair but I’m kinda worried about FSIL doing it as well. I’m not sure if she’s ever done an updo before even tho it is mainly just a bun. And she’s never done anyone’s hair for their wedding before and I’m just worried about my hair being able to withstand the full day of chaos that comes with a wedding and still look good in pictures. She usually does my hair on the regular, blow dry straight with or without curls so I know she knows how to handle my hair just still a little nervous because I can’t redo this day if it doesn’t turn out the way I want. We’re doing a trial this weekend but last time we tried she wasn’t even fully prepared with everything she needed so my nerves are going crazy. Any advice??

Really only you know if she's the right person to handle your hair the day of. My friend offered to do my hair the day of. We didn't have time for a trial so I knew going in I might not get exactly what I wanted. I didn't get the braid I had my heart set on, but the beachy curls I wanted so much were perfect and lasted all day. I went into it prepared and came out happy with the modified look. Are you willing to accept something similar?

I would definitely attempt to schedule a trial with her asap; and I'd try to do it early in the day so you have a chance to see how it holds up over the day/evening. Daughter's HMUA did an amazing job of creating a fairly elaborate updo, and it looked EXACTLY the same at midnight (after dancing all night) as it did when she finished daughter's services at 10:30 in the morning. I think that takes someone very experienced. (She also recreated the exact same style for the wedding as she had at the trial 6 months prior, so she knew exactly what she was doing.)

As they say, "you get what you pay for" if you are worried, then the $175, may be worth it to book someone that does alot of wedding hairstyles.
    Good luck !

Do a practice run with her! If you don't like it, then you can look into other options.

Good luck with your trial this weekend. If you don’t love it then book someone right away.

I agree. See how you like her work first before making a final decision

I do makeup on the side and my sister is having me do her bridal makeup next year along with my other sister since it will be just the three of us for her wedding (i get married the following year). I am nervous to do hers because she is extremely honest, opinionated and has very particular taste. Since it's family, you can keep working out things you like and don't like. Hopefully she's open to criticism if it's needed, but don't be afraid to speak up about what you want. I told my sister as nervous as I may be to do her wedding, I know I am the only one who understands her temperament and wont get my feelings hurt and get that it's her day.

Best of luck, I am sure you'll be stunning!
