From straps to off shoulder lace sleeves?

Taylor, on April 14, 2021 at 1:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Hi everyone! So I’ll be receiving my wedding dress soon and I’d like to get some opinions/feedback before I commit to what alterations I’ll be settling on.

My dress is Stella York Style 6993 and I love everything about it except I’m thinking I want more romantic flattering sleeves. I don’t like spaghetti straps and that’s really the only thing I want to change. I want to add either lace off shoulder sleeves or full on off shoulder lace sleeves. Here’s my dress:From straps to off shoulder lace sleeves? 1

Here’s the back:From straps to off shoulder lace sleeves? 2
And here’s the kind of sleeves I’d ideally LOVE to have:From straps to off shoulder lace sleeves? 3
So do you all think this would be possible without it being incredibly expensive? Can you ladies share your straps to sleeves alterations stories and photos?
Thank you!!❤️

It all depends on what the bodice is like currently. So from what it looks like, the current bodice is held by the straps if you remove the straps there may not be enough support to keep the dress up. I would ask to talk to the seamstress of the place to get an idea for alterations or if it's possible.

Here’s a better look at the bodice. I’ll be having cups sewn in. But what you said is what I was thinking too and it makes me a little nervous that I won’t be able to have sleeves. I was thinking that I may have to have illusion added to somehow keep it supported. Do you think that would help?

It doesn't look like there is much structure on the bodice, if there is boning then it might be possible and some places can add it but I would talk to your seamstress first. An illusion would help but it may throw off the look you want.

Yeah I’ll speak to the seamstress and hopefully we can come up with something! I wouldn’t totally mind the straps but I would still feel like something is missing. Thank you for your help I so appreciate it! ❤️❤️

I agree with pps about this having everything to do with the amount and type of structure built into your dress and the skills/knowledge of your alterations person. Daughter's dress had a ton of structure in the bodice (boning/stays, very shaped cups, etc.), but the thin, jeweled "decorative" straps were still critical to the integrity of her dress and making sure it stayed up the way it needed to. I've seen dresses with both spaghetti straps and off-the-shoulder draped "sleeves." I'm not sure how the sleeves in your photos would look if combined with the straps, but many bridal salons have ready made sleeves that a bride can try on and see how they'd look with her dress. In most cases, ANY alteration is possible, but it may come at a very high price. Good luck!
