Friends in low places vs piano man Last dance song

CountryBride, on January 15, 2021 at 1:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

So ever since I was young I have been a garth Brooks fan and friends in low places has been my dad and my song. I do not want it as a father and daugther dance song. However the piano man is my fiancé and dads song, One of the greatest dates we have been on was when I fulfilled a life long dream for my soon to be father in law. we all went together to see Billy Joel and we love the song piano man. So question what song should we put as the last dance song.

I’d try to think about which one the majority of your guests would probably enjoy! Are your guests more country fans or no?

I'm not terribly familiar with the song Piano Man probably because that song is actually older than my mom. However I do know Friends in Low Places and that is more of a pumping up the crowd type song so I wouldn't use that for the last dance song.

I love both songs! However, for this occasion, I would choose Piano Man. I think it is a more, universally, well known song.

I think the "right song" depends a lot on what mood you're hoping for you and your guests to end the night on -- fun and upbeat, a nostalgic slow dance song, or something else? I love Billy Joel and have seen him in concert a couple times over his career, and I get that sometimes we really love particular songs, but that doesn't mean they are great dance or wedding songs.... If you really think about the lyrics, Piano Man is kind of depressing -- a bunch of drunks in a bar with nowhere to go and it also might be a tricky tempo for your average wedding guest to dance to -- it's basically a waltz. He has such a huge song catalog, maybe there's another that lets you end on a Billy Joel note, like "Just the way you are," if you want to end with a romantic slow dance or "It's still rock & roll to me," if you want everyone up and bouncing -- it really depends on how you're hoping to end the reception. If you have a DJ, you might want to talk with them about options they've seen work well, given artists or genres you like. Good luck!
