My fiance and I are most likely getting married this November. The date I was really hoping for is already booked at the location we chose but the Friday before it is available. We live out of state but my entire family lives near where we are getting married. We have already talked to a few friends that will be traveling and so far they are all ok with having the ceremony and reception on the Friday (they would have taken that day off regardless for traveling). My only concern is the rest of my family, my mother has said that if the guests were planning on coming they will be there no matter when it is. Which I do agree with somewhat. I just feel bad knowing that some people are going to have to ask for a day off or a half day off of work. But I do think that is more doable for most of them than trying to attend a wedding out of state. Any advice or suggestions?

I think if your OOT guests can swing a Friday wedding, you should go for it. However, you may want to speak with some of the in-town guests who you absolutely want to be there. Find out what their situation is with taking time off from work to go to an afternoon wedding. Some people don't get as much time off as others, so even if your in-town family wanted to be there more than anything, they may not have a choice if their job won't let them leave early. If your in-town VIPs can make it to a Friday afternoon wedding, you're golden. If not, maybe consider not starting until Friday at 6 PM.

@SpringBride that's a fairy tale. Just because people can't make it to an inconvenient wedding doesn't mean they don't care for you.

We are only inviting close friends and family (I have a very large family) so I'm not asking anyone to sacrifice their time that I would not do the same for them. I already expect quite a few people to decline since I have quite a few older relatives, but I know they will appreciate the invite anyway.

And I do know about not having much vacation, I get a very small amount and use every single day I have to go back home to visit my family. So I understand that there will be a few people who will just have to say no.
