So I got an email today from a Mary Kay consultant that got my email from Davids Bridal. ( I didn't get my dress there, but I might get my BM dresses there, so I registered...) She's a local consultant and she offered me a free facial and glamour makeover! woo hoo!! AND I can bring friends and I get $25 in free product and each of my friends get $5 in free product lol which I'm sure is like a sample of lipstick ha ha... anyway, I am excited! Maybe she can give me ideas for how I want my make up to look on the big day!! I kind of feel like a traitor because I kind of unofficially work for Lancome... but until it's "official" I don't have anything to feel bad about! lol

Yeah... they will entice you to sell it... I would be cautious.

Yeah I've been to an MK party before... I know how it goes lol... I couldn't sell it even if I wanted to... it would a conflict of interest with my real job...i'd get fired...I'm just going because I like mary kay and I like these parties... I know they will try to sell me stuff....and if I like something I will buy it...lol I just think it will be fun for me and my girls...and maybe give me some ideas

I enjoy the Mary Kay parties. I don't see how its a scam. I get to try the products and only pay for what I want. Most of the ladies are really nice and helpful. I know my representative has sat through hours with me to pick out the perfect colors for me. I believe that it has saved me a lot of money because I used to get a color then throw it away or give it away because I didnt like it. Yes they will ask you to be a consultant, but a good consultant won't hold it against you if you say no. The makeup also wears a lot lighter than some of the other brands. Have fun!

Yeah I don't see how it could be a scam. A way to get customers, yes. A sales pitch, yes. But that doesn't make it a "scam"... unless she is a serial killer and this is how she gets her victims lol....

Each State has it's own set of regulations with respect to makeup application. In Florida, you are permitted to apply makeup to a customer with the intent to sell the product to that customer. You are not permitted to charge for the application and may only charge for the products. This is why places such as Sephora and MAC will require you to purchase products in order to have your makeup applied by their artists. I am a licensed esthetician and skin care specialist and in Florida, only those licensed through the Board of Cosmetology may apply makeup on the public for compensation without selling products.

I started out early in my career (20 years ago) as a Mary Kay rep and then realized it was all about selling and not much about being a makeup artist. Back then makeup artists weren't a popular service for the general public.

Mary Kay makes some great products for everyday wear, but I would be cautious using it for photography work or in a professional setting.

Hi! I have a question for anyone who can answer it. Next year, I am going to a cosmetology school for skin esthetics, so this year I wanted to get a job that has something to do with makeup and skincare. I applied to Sephora twice, but after two weeks of waiting for a reply the second time, I became a Mary Kay consultant to get myself some experience of selling and teaching people to se skincare and makeup. Then, Sephora called and wanted me to set up an interview. I really want to work there because they teach you a lot about everything that I'll be going to school for, and it'll get me experience in that work field, but I don't want to just quit Mary Kay. So, my question is, would it be a conflict of interest to be a Mary Kay consultant and still work at Sephora? I wouldn't promote Mary Kay at Sephora because that'd be stupid. I just want to get experience. Please reply. I really don't know what to do.
