Just Said Yes June 2018

Freaking out :( Dress is too tight. Pictures included.

Hello to all of you beautiful brides to be, I would really like your advice please. My Martina Liana dress arrived and it is extremely tight in the hip area. There is no way I would be able to sit down. Walking felt uncomfortable. I trusted the bridal consultant who took my measurements as they were accurate however she ordered me a size 4 dress (I thought she would order a 6 which I asked, and she said no with this dress you would need a 4.) Well, it arrived and just as I assumed, the dress is one size too small. I am "pear" shaped, I've always been tinier up top with a small waist and wide hips. I do plan on losing 5 more lbs before my wedding in June however I don't know if that would even do anything for my dress. I'm extremely worried. This dress took 3 months to get here and the only word of advice I was given from the bridal consultant is to "let them take out a few of the seams and it's too late for me to order a bigger size???" Ah the headache!! Plus the reviews on their alterations specifically aren't so good so I plan to bring it to a seamstress sometime next week.

Has this happened to any of you? Have any of you had a dress "let out" in your hips area? About how much can a wedding dress usually even be let out? I am extremely nervous! Smiley sad I can definitely drop the 5 lbs, (seems like i'd need to lose 10 if anything geeze!) however i've always been more bottom heavy and my hip area is usually the last to go lol.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you!!

First of all you are not pear shaped - you have a lovely hour glass figure! I would call the bridal shop and explain your concern. Talk to alterations and see if there is any room to have the dress let out or find out how long it would take to order the right size. You great in it though!

First breathe. Your dress is pretty and i see what u mean about your hip area. I have the same issue. First you could try going and getting a slimming slip that will tighten your hip area a bit. I did this got mine at Walmart for 9.00 second you can try is take your dress to a different seamestress or Taylor and see what they can do. Dont orderer a new dress in a bigger size then u will have more issues. . my dress was tight in the hip area my seamstress took out the pleats in the lining and it gave me enough room. I plan on wearing tummy control pantyhose along with my slip.. Also when u sit dont try to do it with out lifting your dress up. I did that and can sit comfortably. . hope this helps u.

My dress was let out in the hip area and I was REALLY concerned because it's ruched and I didn't think it would let out smoothly. BUT it came out gorgeous and I can actually sit down in it now without worrying I'm going to bust it open.

Do you have the measurements plus the measurements for the dress? If they don't match up thats for sure a dispute ! I'm not sure if you signed a contract or what but just something to look into- beautiful dress !

Girl, you have an incredible figure, and you are rocking that dress! That said, it looks inhumanly tight in the waist and hips, and I can't imagine you'll be comfortable and happy all day and night like that. I'd really go back to the shop, make a big stink about it, and see what they can do about ordering the next size up. You requested that size, and they said "no, trust us, we know better". Welp, in this case, they didn't, and I think they need to make it right. Like PP said, if you signed any sort of agreement (I know I had to when I got my dress), it should have some language in there regarding sizing, and they just might be accountable for a re-order. I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice, but I'd def go back there and speak to the manager or owner about it.

My bridal shop made me sign something that said the size I chose is on me and basically they are not responsible if it doesn’t fit. That being said they didn’t pressure me to choose a specific size. See if there is anything they can do by way of reordering. If the wedding is in June then it may not arrive in time and letting out the hips is a safer choice. Plus the top seems to be a perfect fit so you’d probably need additional time to take in the top which would definitely be pushing the timeline. Go to a tailor and see if they think they can let it out a couple inches.
