Freakin out!

Freakin out! 1
My wedding is next week and I absolutely love the back of my dress. Yesterday I went for my final fitting and it didn’t fit. 😱 even the seamstress was surprised! Haven’t gained weight. She believes when the dress’s straps got restructured (she took some from the side), it now doesn’t fit the bust area, therefore not zipping up. Her suggestion was a corset back, I’m just worried it won’t look good. 😭 any suggestions or good vibes.

I'd go with her suggestion. They can make corsets look very subtle and I don't think it'll take away from that gorgeous back.

I'm so sorry, what unnecessary stress so close! To be clear. That woman owes you the full price of your dress and ANY alterations you have already paid for.. Do not pay her anymore money and if she fixes the problem to your satisfaction should refund anything she has already charged. If she can't fix then she owes you a new dress.

Now to solutions. Why can't she just redo all straps. Can't be too hard to find strap material and once again she pays for material and repair. You might end up with straps you like better.
Something serious to consider is wether you trust her to make the revision., do you cut your loses and find someone else to fix and deal with her after the wedding. That was a HUGE mistake she made and her suggestion didn't really seem like the right solution that would give you the fit you deserve.

I ended up having a dress NIGHTMARE and had to let it out, but the woman had cut the fabric. Therefore, I now have two corsets up the sides, yes the sides. LOL! Everyone has told me they can hardly notice the difference, so I’ll have to roll with it. You will look beautiful no matter what you do, but I think a lace up back will look lovely!

I don’t know the solution but you absolutely should not have to pay her. She basically did the opposite of her job.

Oh no! I'm so sorry Jessica!! ❤️

If she can't let it out any without adding a corset back then I'd just go for it! Your dress will still be stunning!! 😍

I would go with her recommendation. I purposely had a corset back added to my dress, because I love the look of it. So much prettier than a zipper! Plus it has the added benefit of giving you (and your girls) a little extra breathing room.

Go for it!! Looking at the picture, I think a corset back would go really well with this dress!!

A corset back can be done in a way where it is hidden, if you don't like the look. The corset back will give you flexibility to get a perfect fit.

Even if you didn't gain weight, do you regularly take your measurements? Is it possible that you may have gained a half inch somewhere while your weight stays the same? My waist and hips can vary by nearly an inch without necessarily affecting the scale.

That's horrible! I usually don't share stuff from here with my fiance because he's not all that interested in the little details but this was like the worst thing ever in my mind! Even his eyes went wide! What a nightmare. Honestly that's really unfair. Is there no way she can reconstruct the sides as to not mess with the back you love so much? Honestly, if it were me I wouldn't mind. Corsets add a bit of sexy. It doesn't look like there's much room for one. Can she not get a little more creative on the fox than that? I hope she's refunding some of your money for that horror show of a fitting. I would be crushed. That's the biggest focal point of the wedding. I'm happy she can find a way to work it out though. It could be worse and you could have no dress!

That's horrible! How can these seamstresses be so careless? Sewing 101 is leaving 1/4 or 1/8 just in case. She shouldn't be cutting so close to the line (literally and figuratively. Why couldn't she do illusion sides? That seems to be really trendy and pretty right now. Silver lining? No one will have a dress quite like yours and I'm sure it's pretty. I'd love to see it on you if you have a pic!

That’s true. I think it just makes me nervous because it won’t be done until the day before my wedding. So not much wiggle room.
And I actually lost inch since my last fitting. I’ve been so crazy with weighing and measuring so this wouldn’t happen. It is what it is. I’m just incredibly anxious.

I can't believe that was her only option. Did she refund you? I bet you could have sued her unless they make you sign some sort of damage release. Who wants that kind of stress during this joyful time though? So unfortunate. You don't hate it do you? It's not horrible and your arms hide it. A good veil could do wonders as well. You could go fingertip length and probably hide it. Why are all these seamstresses not folding in extra fabric? Even 1/8 in can save you from that mistake. And for such an important garment you would think they wouldn't be so careless. I'm so sorry for all of these women who pay all that money and then get their dresses ruined. It's not right. You pick a dress for all it's little details and then they change it all up. You still look gorgeous though, so as long as you don't hate it it's not crazy looking. Just different and there's nothing wrong with that!

Thank you!! Yeah, it is different but I’m rolling with it. Technically, this is a vow renewal since we were legally married last June and I’m just tired of spending all my money on a wedding, so I’m going to embrace the change. But yes, makes me sick to spend 3K on a dress, to spend $600 to have it altered and ruined. Then another $300 to be ruined even more. LOL! Oh well, time to roll with the changes!

She charged you more to fix her mistake? That's not right. She knew she had you against the barrel. I'd at least write a bad review everywhere you could. She might do the right thing and refund you just to get rid of them.

Yea that's nerve wracking for sure. I wore my dress for our legal ceremony during Covid last year and plan to wear it again for our celebration next month. Fortunately I tried on my dress last week and it still fits, but I gained about 5 lbs and it was so snug I couldn't sit down! Its so hard to maintain exact numbers for a full year. Fortunately our wedding is just a few weeks away so I can lose just enough weight so that it fits better by then, but it still might be a bit snug for eating and dancing, so now I'm trying to have a second dress altered in time. No fun!

Agreed if the dress doesn't fit because she incorrectly accounted for how her alterations would affect fit, then that's on her and you should NOT be paying additional to have this error fixed.

If the dress didn't fit because you gained weight that would be a different story. But the reason there is a fit issue is because SHE messed up. I'm so sorry this is happening to you!
