Framing your wedding dress

FutureMrsKosloske, on July 9, 2017 at 10:21 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi all! I am getting married on Saturday & I have been trying to figure out what to do with my dress after the wedding. Has anyone framed their dress & if so where did you get it done? I am seriously contemplating framing my dress.

Do you think it matters what the box is made of? I know that cedar is supposed to protect fabric.

I bought a kit from David's bridal. They preserve it for you, which was so nice!

Make sure if you do get a shadow box/frame, you have it professionally preserved.

I did see that you can get dresses professionally preserved from companies online. The cheapest I found was $180 to preserve wedding dress & the company picks up your dress and re-delivers it to your door. Anyone find anything better?

I had my dress from a previous marriage preserved at a local dry cleaners. It cost about $200. I just took it out for the first time since it was preserved in 2008 and it looks immaculate.

My drycleaners preserved it and put it in a box that opens to show my dress through a window. It cost about $120 for mine but it's cheaper if there's less materials (mine was a poofy dress). I didn't research this myself but a friend looked into wooden frames and was concerned about how long the dress would remain in its original condition so took the preservation box route instead.

This is similar to what mine looks like closed. Mine doesn't have those logos I believe, it's plain white box.

I suggest you sell it. I am 99% sure your daughter will never wear it and your decorating style will not accommodate a framed wedding dress.

Cedar chest smells wonderful if you're not allergic to it

@Bee the preservation box looks like a really great way to go too!

@murial I do not necessarily expect my daughter to want to wear it someday, as I am not sure if I want children. Someday I may want to try to slip into my wedding dress though, perhaps on a special anniversary; or I am a very crafty person that may find a way to re-purpose it in the future.

Thank you for the suggestions ladies!
