Formula for writing vows -- Celia?

Chelsea, on July 19, 2015 at 2:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Anyone is welcome to share their advice, but I'm hoping Celia will see this and help me out. We're writing our own vows, and awhile back I think Celia gave some kind of formula for writing vows. Something like 2-3 sentences on what you love about FS and 2-3 sentences on what you promise FS in your marriage. Does this sound right, or was there another part I'm missing? I'm going to use an example I found online, but FH is writing his own so I wanted to share some tips with him that I found while looking.

There you go! Don't make it too long, don't make it so emotional that you can't consider repeating the words in public, don't embarrass your fiance.

Thanks, @LizzyS, that's exactly what I was looking for! I promise that I did search "vows" and "vows celia" before posting this! Is there a way to organize search results by date? I knew I had seen her post but couldn't find it. Thanks so much for tracking it down!

Friends of mine did their own vows and while it was the sweetest, most romantic ceremony I'd been a part of, it was LONG. Like 20 minutes each. WAY too long. Keep in personal, but simple. You can always write him a letter with sweeter, longer reasons why you love him and want to marry him that not everyone else needs to sit through lol

Wow, agreed @MrsBest2B. Our entire ceremony will be 20 minutes, so having 1 partner's vows that long is out of the question!
