Formal or not

How formal are you talking and what is your social circle used to? I've attended formal weddings with and without buffets. How many guests are attending? It may be easier to have a buffet so that guests can serve themselves and mingle with others while doing so.

We live in Oklahoma so it’s a lot of jeans and boots but they will dress up for wedding or something for a special occasion but the guests from out of town dress in black tie for a wedding so I don’t really want them to feel over or anyone to feel under dressed. We have around 65 guests not including the bridal party

View Quoted Comment Gorgeous venue! I would say semi formal. That's what we are doing with a buffet as well. My FH and I both agreed that a plated dinner was not an option for the same reason as you. We didn't want anyone to go hungry.

It's your wedding and it will look how you want it to. Don't worry about the "rules" too much and enjoy your day!

I would say nothing more formal than semi-formal/cocktail if you are doing a buffet. I would be annoyed as a guest if I came in a really nice dress and heels and then had to walk across the room with a full plate of food.

You also may may want to consider having servers at your buffet to manage portions

My brothers wedding was formal, not quite black tie but jacket required, and he had a buffet. It’s your wedding, do what you want.

I'd describe it as semi-formal. But I've also attended weddings that were on the more formal side that had buffets, so I wouldn't worry either way!

You can do whatever the heck you want and call it whatever the heck you want! Buffets are perfectly fine, even in a formal setting! Some people can be such sticklers for rules.

I think that weddings have moved from just having plated dinners. We also will be having a buffet dinner. There will be servers, and room attendants filling water, and serving the food through the buffet line. I think more and more couples are turning to this option as it is a little easier on the pocket, and honestly, I don't think it takes away from the formality of your wedding.

I am doing formal with a buffet I don't want folks hungry either.

For our wedding we had a buffet and semi formal AKA no jeans/tshirts/beach outfits.

My mom wanted to wear beach shoes...they were hideous. That was my one and only bridezilla moment. I begged her to not wear them. She said she thought it was ok because I was wearing converse. My converse where light sequin and matched my dress. Her shoes were legit beach tennis shoes that were navy with pink bows all over them lol. Maybe if they would have matched what she wore but she wore brown pants and a cranberry top. Come to think about it she dressed nicer for her coworkers wedding.

Anyways yes you can have a buffet and a semi formal attire. Our buffet was tacos and it was a hit and no one thought it was weird.

I see nothing wrong with it! If everyone likes to eat, ans you want to make sure everyone gets enough, there's nothing wrong with dressing fancy and getting up for food. I don't see how it would make it seem less fancy. Then again, everyone I know loves buffets lol We're having a formal wedding with a buffet too
