When are/did you have your formal family pictures taken?

Before or after the ceremony?

How long did it take and what were your guests doing in the meantime?

If you wanted formal pictures with all your guests, how did you organize that?

Our ceremony/cocktail/reception is in the same location but different areas/rooms.

Thoughts?

@soontobeRTR thank you for posting. That's the exact timeline I am looking at but am very nervous about it being enough time. Please come back here and let us know how the timeline worked!

We did some with my parents before the first look at the hotel. We did formal pictures with our families after the ceremony at the chapel. We gave a list to the photographer, and we had them all done in less than 15 minutes! We did not do formal guests photos.

I am going to be taking pictures with my family before and FH will take pics with his family. After the ceremony we will do pictures all together during the cocktail hour. My photographer said the hour will be enough time for our couples and family pictures.
