Formal Brunch Wedding?

Mary Jane, on February 5, 2020 at 11:22 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 8

We are currently thinking about having a formal brunch wedding? Does that sound odd to you all? I was wondering if it was because I know brunch perhaps implies a more casual dress code.

When I say formal, I mean like.. black tie.Smiley atonished

Thanks in advance!

No, this is quite common nowadays.

Just make sure you execute your formal vision in the food/drinks/dress

You can have something more formal even if the theme is rustic. Sounds lovely.

I think you can make brunch a more formal than casual thing but I wouldn’t expect guests to wear evening gowns and tuxes if that’s what you’re asking.

Hmmm.... so you think more of like a semi-formal thing? I like the idea of black tie, but it seems like that may be too formal for brunch.

It does sound a bit odd but I love brunch so that would be really great food to me aha. I would make it semi formal though

Brunch is not appropriate for black tie IMO. You can have a more "formal" brunch wedding but black toe designates a level of hosting including multi course dinner, premium open bar, live music, valet, etc.

I'd be confused if I received a black tie invite for a brunch wedding, but I'd probably still come in black tie attire. As long as you have the other elements of a true black tie wedding: valet, coat check, live band, full open top shelf bar, passed appetizers, plated several course meal, favors, menus & programs, etc. then I think you're fine. If it was me, I'd go semi-formal though.

Black tie isn’t just a dress code, it’s an event that comes with a certain level of formality and expectations from the host. Among things like multi course plated meals, top shelf open bar with wait staff, valet parking, live band, etc....it also dictates that the event start no earlier than 6pm. So just on that “formality” alone (pun kind of intended) brunch can not also be black tie.

However, you can have an elevated, upscale brunch if you would like which would be a lot of fun, I just wouldn’t expect people to show up in tuxes and evening gowns because it’s not an appropriate time of day for that attire, regardless of the formality of the event.
