Forgot dietary restriction on rsvp

Selena, on February 10, 2019 at 12:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25
I forgot to ask about dietary restrictions on my RSVPs. I know I have some vegan and vegetarian friends, as well as those who are gluten free. Is it worth reprinting? It would be about $35 to reprint, so not a huge deal.

If it's only $35 then yes, I'd just reprint them.

The problem is I don't know the restrictions outside of a few people.

And unfortunately the misprinted ones would just go in the recycling.

We do have a website that can accept RSVPs, I would guess that most just send back the card though.

No. If they have a dietary restriction, that's on them to call you and explain.

Maybe instead of having it on the website as an RSVP option, you could just put a little note on there saying that if people have a dietary restriction to contact you? But like you said, $35 isn't a huge deal so you could just reprint them.

P.S. Where are you printing through that it's only $35, I'm very curious!

Maybe print out a little card for dietary restrictions. I printed some business cards from Vistaprint for my rehearsal dinner invite. They were super cheap and you can put a note on there about how to let you know about dietary restrictions. Then you don’t have to toss your invites, just add this little card into the envelope.

As someone with dietary restrictions, I agree that I never assume someone else will think of my dietary restrictions, and it’s my own responsibility.

However, if I’m invited to a wedding, and there isn’t something specifically requesting whether I have dietary restrictions, I usually feel awkward about getting in touch with the couple to see if they can accommodate. I know wedding planning is busy and stressful and wouldn’t want to call and ask for them to go out of their way to accommodate my restrictions. I would instead just eat before or after the event to not make things more difficult on the hosts. If they ask on the invite though, then I’ll respond, and know they are already planning to accommodate my restrictions.

So while I agree that “it’s on them”, the polite thing for a host to do is to ask about restrictions, so no one is put in that awkward situation.

Reprint, the $35 is worth the peace of mind.

If it's a very small number of cards, I'd handwrite a note on them, otherwise reprint. Dietary restrictions are pretty important.

I just had to reorder for a similar reason, so I say reprint. I'm also taking the opportunity to move my RSVP date up a tiny bit since I decided to have fairly labor intensive place cards made, so it's a win-win for me!

I like the website idea the best. When the big day arrives you may wish you'd saved that $35.

I put a note on our website that we had special GF and vegetarian meals available for anyone who needs them. I didn't print them on my invites through because I felt it was a waste of space for only a handful of people that need them. I did add a note for two of the people I knew needed vegetarian. It hasnt been a big deal, no one has gotten in touch with me so I'm assuming they'll be fine with whatever we're serving, if not that's on them for not speaking up. I'd save the money and send as is.

Thanks all, I am going to reprint them, it is only $35 to reprint them from Vista print. And was even less to print the first time because I ordered them at 50% off.

I do need a count for vegetarian/vegan dinners. So that will make me feel better.

Yeah there are 80 of them, so that is more than I want to write.
