For fun - how different was the wedding you envisioned compared to the one you had/are planning?

What were differences from what you envisioned vs what you ended up with?

For instance with me I envisioned having the reception in the same venue as ceremony and cocktail hour but that ended up not happening. Also envisioned totally different centerpieces than what I ended up with.

All in all those differences didn't make a dent in my overall happiness though but would be cool to see how different your plans ended up being vs what you originally hoped for/envisioned.

When I was fourteen, I boldly proclaimed that I wanted a hot pink wedding. My taste has totally changed and I personally don't like hot pink anymore. We're having more muted tones for the wedding we're planning!

Interestingly enough what didn't change for me were my color choices aha. I still stuck to the same colors I always envisioned.

Interestingly enough I never envisioned a wedding. My fiance did and wanted it to have the color purple as much as possible and tons of flowers.
We can't afford tons of flowers but there is a lot of purple. I just wanted to be outside by the ocean after thinking about it and we got an Oceanside venue.

I had a general idea of what I wanted. Ceremony and reception at the same place, outdoor ceremony and reception in the ballroom. That is definitely the setup we have. The biggest change is the guest list. I wanted to keep it to a maximum of 150 people on our guest list. Somehow it has ballooned to 235 and we have only had 3 no’s as of now 😳😩🤦🏻‍♀️

Ah I feel ya on that. I envisioned a small 100 person wedding. I ended up with 250 guests aha. That was a really big difference. I do like the idea of 1) everyone is there to celebrate you, makes it festive but also... 2) it was hard to get time with and socialize with every person there.

The wedding I envisioned as a teen is WAY different than the wedding we are planning now, and of course the guy is WAY different too, good thing lol. My high school sweetheart proposed when we were 19 and we halfway started planning a wedding, but I ended up calling it off and shortly after we parted ways. That wedding would have been in a ballroom with a masquerade theme (which I still think would be fun, but is definitely NOT FH's style), the colors would have been red, black, and ivory, and I would have been in a huge ballgown (think Phantom of the Opera theme, which I was obsessed with).

When my FH proposed, we both immediately agreed we wanted to get married in the mountains in Breckenridge area. My first vision was a VERY small wedding on a mountain with 30 or fewer guests, which hasn't changed too much (though our guest list has more than doubled to 65). Our wedding is in the mountains overlooking a reservoir, with a celestial theme, and the colors we are thinking are eggplant and gold, rose gold, or copper. It's fun to me seeing how my ideas evolve and are starting to come together.

Your theme sounds awesome and the venue sounds super scenic.

Thanks! We're hoping for a clear night and some good stargazing since we'll be in the White River National Forest!

Yes, totally hard to socialize. And I don’t even know half the people which is also annoying lol

"My dream wedding" By 10yr old me: 🙃😂

Dress: Huge ball gown with lots of sparkles and more tulle than my body weight
Cake: 4 or 5 tiers with bling everywhere
Colors: Hot pink, black, and silver
Wedding party: 10+ people each side

Wedding planned by 22yr old me:

Dress: mermaid/ trumpet with lace and no loud sparkle but instead pretty beads that sparkle
Cake: 3 tiers simple white icing with roses on top
    Colors: Wine, gold, and sunflowers
Wedding party: 4 people each side

What I envisioned is very similar to what I'm doing. The only thing that really changed is that I envisioned getting married on 10/10/20 but it wasn't available anywhere in my area. Also, I expected to be able to do more but things add up fast!

I totally also envisioned a completely different dress from what I actually got too ! But that was moreso because what I envisioned ended up not being as flattering on me as I hoped aha. I guess as we get older our tastes refine as well.

I guess so! I could not imagine being in a full ball gown now 😳 I love to dance and be crazy so I feel it would limit what all I could do. Also I would be super far away from those I would be taking pictures with due to the dress size.

I never really envisioned my wedding before, but I think I knew that I wanted to have a low-key wedding.

I ended up having it on my grandparent's farm with all the people I loved, and it was perfect.

Biggest difference was probably the guest count. Originally thought 150 people tops, but that number is now 250...

I really thought mine was going to be more rustic since it's in the fall, but as expenses mount up it's changed a bit. It's more glam because I got great deals on gems and candle holders.

I kept saying that this wedding wouldn't have a theme, we were only going to do accents of our favorite team, and some other things.

Apparently I was only fooling myself, because absolutely no one, including FH, is surprised that we have a theme, that it's our baseball team, and that I managed to get my favorite color (purple) into it, because our team's colors happen to be red and blue.

I also thought my family would be there, but that is looking exceedingly unlikely.

When I was younger I wanted to get married in my tree house & have the reception in my parents backyard 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ (Could’ve worked, it’s a big yard lol). Early in the planning phases I mentioned that as a joke and they were like “um no, we’re not hosting an event for 200 people here”. Our venue is exactly what I wanted as a practical adult though, a beautiful rustic brewery with tons of exposed brick. Ceremony and reception in the same place (which I always love). And we’re getting married in the fall which I always knew that I wanted!
