For anyone with dress regret: a journey through alterations.

EmilyJ, on April 30, 2016 at 4:49 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

So I was once a victim of dress regret. Is it boring? Do I look like a whale? What about strapless, why did I get strapless?

I looked at my sample photo for 7 long long months.

Well, I just got my last fitting, and let me tell you a story through photos...on mobile of course.

This first photo the sample.

My thoughts: "I can get low in this, no sparkle, I like lace... This is good"

    The wait was finally over.

    I got my dress!

Well this was pretty anti climatic if you ask me.

My thoughts: "did graduate school turn me into a box?! Fuck me"

Perfect & Thank you! I currently don't have a waist in my dress (pre-alterations,) so I've been nervous! This makes me feel better!

You look beautiful! I loved my dress when I tried it on. Then it came in and I tried it on and thought "omg this is it and did I make a mistake and what about all the other pretty dresses and and and?" Then I stepped out and saw the faces of my two best friends when they saw me and was like "Yep, totally made the right choice." I can't wait for the alterations. I hope they make me look like a bridal queen, too.

My sample dress was a size 26 and I am a 4! I kept going back to the picture and though I made a mistake too. But I know once it's in my size I will love it again. Here is how 22 sizes too big looks! I'm all clamped in ! No waist and all lopsided !

This is so funny! You look beautiful in your dress.

I felt like a "box" too after my first fitting. I asked the lady to take in the waist, and she said, "You will not be able to breath." I said that was fine as long as I had a defined waist.

Photo is before alterations. Now I have it back and I feel like the hemmed it too short. I wanted that fairytale look where it drags the ground a little. I think it looks fine before alterations! Somehow, she found it needed over $400 in alterations. I don't know why I didn't speak up and say no, I want it extra long. Oh well.

Beautiful dress! I've heard the key to no dress regret is to stop looking at other dresses completely after you've bought yours. Makes sense to me lol

@ Emily T - so glad that alterations helped you love your dress again!

Here is my 1st and 3rd alterations appointments - at the first appointment the seamstress told me that I had to choose a different dress because she wouldn't be able to take it out enough. Well, she was wrong - the second seamstress was a miracle worker - at the 3rd appointment she was making final adjustments and it looked better on me. When I finally picked up my dress you would not have believed the difference! I do not have a picture of it finished, but it fits great!
