Are you having a tasting menu with your caterer? That helped us choose tremendously!

What is your budget? Do you and your fiance have any ideas for things you want? How many guests will you have?

See if your venue suggests any caterers. We were lost and ended up with a caterer suggested by both our ceremony and reception venues. Otherwise I would think about what kind of vibe, or budget, you have and just start searching.

I agree, I would start with your venues recommended caterers. Most venues will have a recommenced vendor list, which usually makes the most sense. They will know the kitchen, the layout and it will just be easier and run smoother than a caterer that’s never been there

Think about the vibe of your wedding and match the food theme to it—if you’re going casual, then barbecue, build-your-own pizzas, a taco bar, etc. would fit right in. If you’re more formal, then the food needs to be more formal too. Once you decide on a food theme, you can look in to caterers. I agree with everyone else who said to ask your venue for recommendations. If you’re hiring a planner or a coordinator, they can probably give you recommendations as well.

From there, make sure you’re hitting all the major dietary needs of your group. Have allergy-friendly options, a vegan option, a red meat, a white meat and/or fish, gluten-free options, etc.
