Food Trucks!

Has anyone ever been to a wedding that was catered by a food truck? Or has anyone looked into this for their own event? It sounds fun, but I'd love to hear some real life stories about how people pulled it off.

We're having a food truck. They are also a full-blown catering company and do weddings all the time. They'll be setting up buffet style with hot appetizers for cocktail hour, and then they'll do gourmet burgers for dinner from the truck followed by stuffed churros on the tables for dessert. All for $20/pp! We've tasted all the food and it's amazing. We've also preselected a smaller menu so that way they can be prepped for what they'll be serving which will help with wait time for guests. I am SO excited to have hired them and I know my guests are going to love it.

I wanted to do if originally.. but I talked to 3 different food trucks and they all said they could do it, but when I was ready to give them my money they dropped off the face of the earth. Just my experience, but you might have a hard time finding someone that is willing to miss out on the business of a food park on a weekend

We are using a food truck to cater our wedding. They have absolutely amazing fish, chicken, and barbecue tacos. They offer the option of serving from the truck or setting it up with attendants and I believe we are doing the latter. It's pretty cost efficient and works great with our casual beach wedding!

Sounds like a wonderful change from the usual wedding venue food, especially plated meals. Give me a buffet or food truck any time.

I went to a wedding in Seattle last summer that had a food truck. It was great. They had about 80? guests and nobody had to wait long for food. I don't remember what all was served, but I had a Philly cheesesteak with waffle cut fries and green salad. I know they had some sort of chicken, too. Based on that experience, we decided to get a food truck. I'm super stoked about it. Tri-tip, pulled pork sandwiches, and teriyaki bento are our meal choices, and we have about 4 different salad varieties. He is also doing our appetizers. The owner is bringing a staff of 4 with him. We will be paying $21 per plate.

The only thing on his regular menu we are getting is the bento, but he did tastings with us for off-menu choices. Some of these folks are trained chefs and can cook way more than they offer to a busy lunch crowd on a daily basis.

A great word of advice we got: ask about their larger, future events and go see how they handle event catering and large groups first-hand. I was nervous about people waiting and his ability to handle larger groups (we will have 120 guests) until I watched with a full staff at a large wine festival. There was another truck there that didn't handle the larger event so well (4 trucks total at an event that about 600-700 people there periodically). You can get a real good feel for their professionalism like that. I also never thought to ask them about licenses and insurances either. Our planner did, though, and the pros had it readily available to look at and others said they'd have to look or whatever. Good luck! I hope you find a great one!

Wouldn't do it for the main meal but as a late night snack most definitely!
