Anyone rented or thinking of renting a good truck instead of catering? If so what’s your experience been like?

I've seen it done, but only for a more casual wedding. I guess as long as the food is plentiful enough, affordable enough for you and suits your venue's requirements & your event formality, go for it!

Several people on here have shared their experiences going to weddings with food trucks. Some of the experiences include: taking way too long for guests to get food, making elderly guests (or guests with difficulty standing) stand in line for a long time, cost is often as much or more than hiring a caterer, general vibe is very casual. Some advice I've seen as a result is have your food trucks make the food ahead of time and serve it buffet-style so guests aren't waiting a long time for the food to be made. This also minimizes elderly guests from standing too long.

We are planning food truck wedding with about 85 guests and 2 food trucks. I spoke with a BBQ truck there most expensive option would come to about 2600. He said he did an event with 300 guests and served them all in 1.5 hours so 85 people will be no problem. He also only does private events and never does like festivals and has tons of amazing reviews. I imagine he can serve so quickly bc he smokes all the meat the day before so he pretty much just assembles the sandwiches and tacos. He also will provide 2 sides sodas and water and all his own paper goods. We will be giving them plates to use to make it a little fancier. I am also planning to hire some servers to help. I will make "escort cards" on little sticks so guest can order and hand over there stick. The food truck person will put the stick in the food and the server will deliver to the table on the stick and the persons name will be on it if they don't want to stand and wait. I plan to have the trucks for about 3 hours so guests can eat whenever they want.

We are having a food truck for our wedding and i am so excited. at first i was really hesitant because i didn't want it to be sketch but we went to one of their restaurants to try the food and so far the experience has been excellent. i can't wait to have them at our wedding. i think you should do it because you have a lot of variety and they are affordable especially for a smaller crowd (less than 100 people here!)

We are having a food truck wedding next month and wouldn’t have chosen any other catering options. It’s so much more “us”. We are still having a “sit down” reception, but a bit more relaxed. Guests will go and get their food from the truck much like a buffet. We have 150 guests and have 3 trucks serving 70 people each (so some guests can have seconds). And it’s sooo much cheaper (about $20 AUD pp).
