Food Trucks & Tableware

Alyssa, on February 27, 2020 at 11:52 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

I am looking to do a food truck at my wedding but I am all about the detail and don't want to skip out on tableware. I also don't want to break the bank when I don't have to though. Is it ridiculous to still get plates and utensils? I also do not want plastic if I can avoid it.

So if you were to get plates would you want it to be where guests bring it to the food truck to refill if they want more or they can get a new plate each time?

It's not ridiculous to have plates and utensils, but you have to consider how the food truck will serve their food. You could ask them to serve it on a specific plate? And have your specific utensils already at the guests seat. But that will also be up to the food truck that you hire as to if they are willing to use your provided plates.

Agree with this. I definitely prefer to eat off real plates with real flatware and it looks SO MUCH nicer for a wedding, so I totally get it. But you will need to collaborate your vendors, since serving from a food truck is a bit different logistically. I would bring this up when you are interviewing the different trucks, to see how they would handle it.

I don't think it's ridiculous, but how are the food trucks going to serve the food? Have you considered just having chargers for decoration?

My thought was people would stand in line, collect their food which will probably be crêpes and then return to the table to sit down and eat. My only worry is that people wouldn't want to sit down and eat because you can hold it while you eat. We're not booked with the crêpe truck yet but that's what we're thinking.

I would want it to be a refill kind of situation.

Is this for the main dish or something fun on the side? If it's just something on the side, I would not get separate plates for that. People know it's a food truck and you can definitely get away with making this cute and casual. If it's the main dish, I'd see about creating a buffet line outside the truck and placing the real plates there. Have the silverware and napkins set at the tables.

I know you don't love the idea of plastic, but I think something disposable is the way to go for something like this. Especially if you aren't wanting to spend a ton. They make plastic flatware that looks like silverware and plastic plates that look really nice. If you don't love plastic, and if it fits the vibe of your wedding, you could also look into bamboo or palm leaf plates and flatware. They're more eco friendly than plastic and have a fun feel.

Know that a lot of food vendors won't allow for refilling on the same plate due to food safety rules. Are crepes the only food or a cocktail hour snack?

I imagine most of them have their own utensils and you'd just supply nice looking charger plates.
