Food trucks at wedding

Kaitlyn, on November 15, 2020 at 8:11 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 12
I’m planning a wedding for October 2022. I found a barn I love and I saw a couple that married there before used a food truck or 2 which I love the idea especially to keep costs down! This venue is basically only providing tables and chairs and has no vendor restrictions and I believe I have to pay a little extra for them to set up and tear down. So doing food trucks might be hard logistically everyone will just throw away their own trash? Do I buy nice plastic plates and utensils to have the food truck use so the table settings look nice? Also I want the tables to have preset water and champagne toast but I assume I will just be hiring a bartender so not sure who will set that up or if they typically would? Any suggestions or ideas I would appreciate since this will probably be very DIY but I’m considering hiring a day of coordinator for help

A food truck I think would be a good idea if you don’t have a lot of people - otherwise I’m not sure how fast they could serve everyone

Food trucks generally provide their own disposable plates and silverware. However they take forever and a year to serve people. Think like when you're at the state fair and the lines are long and slow. That is how food trucks are. If you have 2 or more, you have to pay each for the guest count times the number of trucks.

If you're wanting to save money, have a favorite local Mexican/Chinese restaurant cater and hire serving staff via Thumbtack.com.

I will have about 90-100 people max and I was planning on two different types of trucks. I was hoping they could have smaller selections and have some already prepped. Also was planning each table be called one at a time to help with congestion in the line area. Plus if covid is still an issue then that’s socially distant

We've been to a wedding that had a food truck for cocktail hour and it went great! It was a huge hit among guests because it was something unique at the time. I don't think it would be an issue if you had 2 serving your guest count. Def. make sure that you note any guest allergies or dietary restrictions. Also ask the food truck caterer if they supply their own plates & utensils, most of the time they do, but it doesn't hurt to double check!

I won't be any help on your question about the drinks, but I would assume you wouldn't have to pay for a bartender because if their preset, then technically they aren't bartending? Maybe the venue's provided staff would be the ones to preset the table & drinks?

We'll be having a food truck at our wedding, but we'll also be having another caterer come in with appetizers as well.

That’s a great idea! How many food trucks are you having and how many guests are you having?

Only one food truck for 150 people, but they come with a salad bar, so that's nice.

The food will take a while to come out, but at least we have the appetizers to quell their appetites.

If you are, I recommend just getting one food truck to cut costs because many food trucks have a minimum guest requirement. My food truck had a minimum of 120 guests required.

Also interview multiple food trucks, and see which food truck offers more of what you're lookingnfor. For example, one food truck I inquired with had a deal where each guest got an entree with a choice of soda they wanted, while the one I chose came with a salad bar.
    Best of luck!

Yes I was considering two at first but to keep costs down I’ll do 1 and then cater the appetizers because that would work best. Thanks for the advice!

We are having a food truck/caterer. He will be using the truck/trailer to prepare the food and serving it at a buffet and providing everything. They even offer to have more hands on service. So just because it’s a “food truck” doesn’t necessarily mean they will be making the food slow/individually!
