Food Truck Wedding!

Kaylee, on December 19, 2019 at 10:58 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hi! My fiance and I have decided to have a food truck cater our wedding. We are going back and forth for if we should have one or two trucks. Both of the trucks that we are looking at are available on our day and have done weddings before. Both trucks are also capable of doing 100 people on their own. Have you been to a wedding like this or did it yourself? What advice do you have? Thanks!

Guest Count - 100

Location - SE Wisconsin

Food Truck Companies - Hidden Kitchen and Double Bs BBQ

We thought about it but it was cheaper to have it catered. Also, our venue had an approved vendors lists we had to use and they weren't on it.

I would have two to get the line moving as quickly as possible.

The last food truck wedding I went to was awful. They weren't able to serve people in a timely manner and it ended up with people being hangry and wayyyyy too drunk.

Ok, so it's absolutely going to depend on your situation, but I've been to a wedding with food truck vendors. The food was excellent, tacos and stuff. But. It took forever! I feel like the guest count was around the same as yours. And of course people get hungry around the same time (after the intros, first dance, and a couple speeches). So you would go up, stand in a decently long line, and then wait forever for it to be made. Not their fault, it's just a lot of food at once. If you can do two trucks, I recommend it. Or maybe see if they have a plan for handling a bunch of orders at once, like have things pre-made and ready and just need to be thrown on the grill for a sec. It could just be that this truck wasn't ready for the volume. Or make sure there's plenty of apps beforehand? That way people won't be starving.

Food truck food can be creative and tasty, but yeah, like others are saying, there can be real issues with getting food to guests in a timely manner. And standing in line waiting to order and then waiting for your food to be prepared is no fun as a guest. It can really detract from the celebratory reception vibe. Standing in line for a buffet is different; at least that food is already prepared.

I would ask each truck how many people they can serve per hour and then seriously consider hiring both trucks or going with more "standard" catering if their answer doesn't equal a nice guest experience.

I’ve been to a wedding that did a food truck! We loved it and considered it ourselves. They had around 100 people and they had 1 truck and it moved very quickly. I don’t think having 2 would be a bad thing, but I also don’t think it is necessary based on my experience as a guest.

I would have both trucks for a few reasons:

    1. No one likes waiting in line. Having 2 trucks will move things faster.

    2. Some guests may only like (or can only eat) food from one truck but not the other.

    3. Variety is the spice of life.

We did food trucks... we had 120 people and needed two. Make sure that the DJ or whoever is your MC is reminding people to go to the food trucks all night or that your guests know the food trucks are what is dinner. We made that mistake and heard a couple of people were hungry because they thought a bigger dinner was coming out. Luckily one of our food trucks was absolutely amazing and left tons of food for the after party.

This looks like a cool idea!! never seen this. I think if you take some advice from PP and adjust for your guests everything will work out smoothly for you!
