Food truck rehearsal dinner

M&M, on April 1, 2016 at 1:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Let me first apologize by saying that this post won't be related to sharks, missing limbs or life guards.

Has anyone used one of those 'gourmet' food trucks for a rehearsal dinner?

We're getting married at the Newhall Mansion and have the property all weekend. On Friday we just want to hang out by the pool and relax since the next day is the wedding. We want to keep the rehearsal fun and casual.

If you've used one for anything, how was your experience? Just wondering if it's worth it or if we should get something catered through a restaurant.

Thanks!

Not for an RD, but I have for a graduation party. It was super fun, the guests loved it, and the food was delicious. Most quality trucks have websites, social media and reviews now so just do a little research. It's perfect for a casual concept!

The truck that we rented was a retired, renovated fire-truck with speakers to play music and a built in photo booth. It was a HUGE hit. Not sure if they have any upgraded ones like that in your area, but something to look for maybe!

I love food trucks and would totally look into having a food truck or two for the RD if my wedding wasn't in January :/

I used a really good gourmet burger truck for a party once. It was lots of fun.

The only thing to remember is that there's generally a minimum fee, so you could be paying more per person than you would with another caterer if there are not going to be many people there. There are usually also travel fees and service fees in addition to the cost of food, and some areas might require you to purchase a permit (for me it was free, but if I did it in the city it'd be an additional $350). It's also hard to keep it to a specific budget since many food trucks charge by the amount of food purchased rather than a set number per person (this is where having a smaller number of people can be a plus - generally you won't meet the max, so it's easier to estimate the total cost ahead of time).

For the one I used, it'd come out to about $50 per person if I used them for my rehearsal, not including drinks, so I decided to do a bull roast instead (pit beef and italian sausage with black bean and portabella burgers for the veggie option) which comes to $14 per person (and they bring the grill with them and do setup, service, and cleanup).

Love it. Haven't seen if for a RD but have for a wedding. I think it's perfect for what you're describing.
