Food Truck Catering

Barissa, on November 25, 2017 at 1:16 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I'm getting married in June of 2018 in Fishers, IN in my parent's backyard and we want a food truck to cater our wedding. Any ideas?

How many guests and how many food trucks are you planning to hire?

This sounds like it might be fun for 20 people but might be a mess.for anything larger.

I think food trucks are better for late night food, otherwise the wait time can get pretty ridiculous.

I agree; late night snacks? Great. An entire wedding, unless you have six of them with lightening fast service? I think it sounds chaotic and a little messy for anything but the smallest group.

We are doing a food truck. They are equipped to serve large groups in a decent amount of time.

I've been to a food truck wedding before. It was a taco truck. We waited two hours for dinner. People were really hungry and started pushing and yelling. I agree with Celia and Katy, it's great in addition to dinner, not so much FOR dinner.

Great late night surprise, but the lines and the standing around aren't what wedding guests are expecting for dinner. I'd go the conventional route of plated or buffet, and if you love the idea of food trucks, bring them in towards the end of the wedding.

I wouldn't suggest it as the main meal. It would take forever and take away from the music, etc. Taco and Pizza food trucks are popular for the end of the night.

We had a pizza truck as our main meal, but they treated their truck more like a mobile kitchen and served hot pizzas buffet style. We called tables up, about 20 people at a time. We also had family style salad on the tables. Everyone was served fairly quickly. If they have to wait in line like a food truck festival I can see how that would be tedious, but treated like a regular buffet it worked well. We had 100 people

Depending on the size of your crowd, I don't see how a single food truck would be feasible for an entire wedding. We hired a gourmet grilled cheese food truck for our rehearsal dinner since it is a much smaller crowd and I am freaking stoked!! Maybe that could be a good compromise if you're really set on having one...

Well shit. We were thinking 2 food trucks with the buffet style like Sienna mentioned. The more I look the more unrealistic it sounds. I live in Austin so there is an overwhelming amount of food trucks that could handle it, but it doesn't seem the same way for Indianapolis. We are inviting about 200 people so expecting about 150-175ish people.

I guess my main concern is that I just want the food to match the 'feel' of the wedding since it will be a backyard wedding. So more relaxed.

You can get catered food that has that relaxed feel. Great BBQ, tacos with carnitas and pulled chicken, you can do a cook out with burgers and brats if you want - just look for a caterer that makes these simple foods really well and can match the vibe you want.

Our venue is a refurbished feed mill so rustic, pretty but casual. We are having elevated BBQ because we felt it matched our vision.

@Lucky, what do you considerable a reasonable time? You should really check exactly how long the wait will be.

@OP, how big is the backyard that you can fit 175 guests?

Ya. We thought about the idea of BBQ but I think from living in Texas, I've had enough BBQ for one lifetime.

We have 2 acres of land.

Went to a wedding that had a pizza food truck, served buffet style. They could only get about 4 pizzas out at a time, we waited over half an hour to get to go up, and then there wasn't enough for everyone. We had to get dinner on the way home. I heard a lot of grumbling all night!
