Food For Reception

Lindsey, on March 7, 2021 at 10:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8

My fiance and I are having more of a finger food type deal at our reception and I have a few things on the food list but I really have no idea what else to have, we are having more of a smaller wedding and we are thinking probably around 60 to 70 guest so we decided to go with just finger food or something that doesn't take up too much time to put together, does anybody have any ideas of what we can have?

Not really “finger food” but my fiancé and I have opted to do a more laid back reception and are planning on getting a food truck! The one we are currently looking at is $12/ person

What type of venue do you have? Unless it's your backyard, you will be required to go with a licensed caterer. A local restaurant that caters your Casual Friday at the office will be super inexpensive with a ton of food. Basically the local Mexican/Chinese/etc where you go on date night. The food is tastier than a wedding caterer. They will deliver big foil platters to put over chafing burners or someone can pick them up. It shouldn't cost more than $350-400 not counting beverages or cake

I'm not quite sure I'm tracking with your reasoning, but if you're going to have your reception during a meal time (breakfast, lunch or dinner) for more than 2 hours, you need to make sure you have enough apps that would make up a full meal for people, which often is more expensive than having a simple entree.

The finger foods we had at our cocktail hour before our reception were beef wellington bites, cold chicken tandoori salad cups and vegetarian samosas.

I love Michelle's idea--think about your favorite type of place to have appetizers: Like mozzarella sticks and garlic bread? Call your favorite local pizza place and ask about their catering prices and suggestions for their most popular apps and quantity suggestions. Prefer egg rolls and chicken satay? Same with your favorite local Chinese joint.

I'm not understanding the reasoning/connection between having 60-70 guests and doing finger foods instead of a full meal. That's also a pretty sizable guest count! I think you can definitely plan to serve finger foods only if you're having your reception at a non-meal time, such as in the afternoon, and if your reception is on the shorter side. If your reception is in the evening, then I'd plan to serve a full meal.

But assuming that your reception is from, say, 1-3 pm in the afternoon, then I'd recommend something like mini sandwich platters and small salad cups.

If you go to your local supermarket, they typically have options where you could Get assorted finger sandwiches, and assorted cheese and fruit plates. They don’t cost a lot, and you just pick it up that day it’s all ready to go.

We're doing an early afternoon ceremony followed by hors d'oeuvres reception for about 75 guests. We're having spring rolls, carne asada pinwheels, crab cakes, bread and cheese boards, and probably chips and salsa. Our reception is during a non-meal time, so we don't need full meals. Things like sliders and finger sandwiches are always fun, and an assorted fruit plate is something you can pretty much never go wrong with.
