Food for bridal shower

Traci, on September 5, 2017 at 6:00 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I keep getting asked what food I want at my my bridal shower. I have celiac, so I cant have gluten but other than thay, whats customary? I typically dont eat at showers, so I dont usually pay attention to the food. I know the time of day factors into what kind of food is served but thats about all I know. What food are/did you have?? Is home cooked a no-no? Thanks in advance.

Home cooked is a no-no. You are correct there. Your shower should be catered. A lot of people do brunch, the shower from 11 to 2 or something along those lines. As for the celiacs, a good caterer will be able to accommodate that and make you a delicious meal separate from what your guests are having. I personally am a huge fan of brunch showers.

My MOH is having the taco man come. I love the taco man! It's like a taco truck. We went over many ideas and this was the best one, we came up with.

My step mom just asked me what I expected from my shower food... I told her I don't care as long as it tasted good. Just make sure they know the types of things you can eat, since you have dietary requirements and let them handle it

@ FutureMrsK I'm sorry, why is home-cooked a no-no? I get that someone may not want to put in all that work and that catering is easier, but if you're having a small-ish shower at home then what's wrong with home-cooked food?

When my aunt asked me what food I wanted I felt overwhelmed because I didn't want to impose on anybody but also didn't want to have to eat something I didn't like. I knew it was at an Italian restaurant so I ended up just saying what I don't particularly like at Italian restaurants (which isn't much) and knew of a couple of vegetarians that were coming so to ensure there were options for them. Everything was great!

I think if the shower is less than 20 people and at the home the food was prepared, home cooked is absolutely fine.

What's your shower theme? My mom is wanting to throw me a "tea party" shower, so she's talking about serving little finger sandwiches, pastries, etc.

@FSTL Yes!!! I threw my friend a tea party shower with about 8 girls and I made all the food. She really loved it!

Showers can be anything from full meals to appetizers, all different kinds of food. Do what you like and stay within the realm of what would be appealing to the majority of your guests.

I had two showers. Both around 20 women. Both home cooked. Both AMAZING. I see nothing wrong with this for a SHOWER. It's not the wedding. Women have used home cooked food at showers for decades.

As to OP: both of my showers had full meals ranging from apps to lots of salads and a couple main dishes. I also have a dietary restriction, and when asked, I shared my restrictions with the hostesses. From there, they all just ran with it.

I think it all depends on how many people you are having and the time of day. For my shower, we went to a restaurant with 40 people. It was from 10am - 12pm and I think it was a little short....I was struggling to speak with everyone AND open all the gifts. I wish it would have had even an extra 30 minutes.

We had a brunch buffet (pastries, scrambled eggs, bacon, saugsage, potatoes) and cake. Mimosas and coffee/tea served as well.

Mine is at home and a mix of catered (not really catered... just not self cooked) and some things my mom and grandmother are putting together themselves, like cheese trays, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, desserts, etc. But this isn't really a sit down event and only about 20 people will be there.

I would love to have a tea party bridal shower! I think it'd be super cute but not sure if it would necessarily be gluten-free. I think it also depends on what type of shower you are going for - I've seen ones with set menus like salads, a main dish, followed by dessert and others being more casual with finger foods.

Most showers I've been to have been brunch because of the cost savings, it usually much cheaper. But as a person who dislikes any and all breakfast foods, it irritates me.

You could do a nice lunch or a brunch. Just make sure the food is good! That's all that really matters!

Disagree with home cooking being a no no for a shower. I think you're confusing a shower with a wedding...
