Food decisions and other details

Hi All!
My husband and I recently eloped on our cross-country trip and now we’re trying to plan a “reception” on our 1-year anniversary, calling it our “happily ever after party.” I don’t want it to be super formal but also not wanting it boring and casual. We’ve picked a venue which has a bar and a large open event center. I’m hoping to have dancing, and some type of game/poker night. I’m wondering, should we do a meal or a grazing table with appetizer-type foods charcuterie style? Also, any suggestions on desserts for something like this?

I think the food choice depends on what time you will be having the event. If you plan to have it in the evening during meal time, then a meal should be provided.

If alcohol is being served, then either heavy appetizers (meatballs, bruschetta, mini potato skins, etc) or a full meal should be served.

I think it depends on time of day and if you are planning on including alcohol. You don't want to plan an event for meal time and then not serve an actual meal. You also don't want a bunch of guests drinking and having nothing in their stomach to adsorb some of the alcohol.
