Food Choices

Sulema, on December 29, 2019 at 11:19 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
Hello Everyone! I hope you are all having an amazing Sunday!

Please comment and let me know what kind of food are you catering for your big day!
I am having such a hard time coming up with ideas and food choices. I also know that that’s going to be a big chunk of my budget. I really wouldn’t want to go all out in food. My fiancé is a chef and food is important to him. I am just not a big fan on a $5,000 dollar food cater.

What do you want to do? What does your fiancé want? (It’s his wedding too and this might be his #1 request.)

Food was important to us! With a smaller guest list, we could splurge. We had a 5-star meal at our destination wedding in Napa (short ribs, salmon, 3 types of sides for $165 per person), plus appetizers and a full bar. At our local reception, the winery provided a 3-course plated meal for $45 per person. Plus we had an open bar & wedding cake.

Food is important to him to a certain point. He’s mind set is “I am able to cook this no problem” but having him understand that unfortunately he can’t cook the food because our food has to come from a certify kitchen. I told him he can cook for our engagement party and have food to his standards but for our wedding we can choose something reasonable with our breaking the bank.

Got it! Whew, I’m glad he CAN’T cook for your wedding day because he should enjoy the wedding, not work. 😊

    How many guests?

We both LOVE tacos! So we sat down with our caterer and came up with “swanky tacos” as our main course. We had shrimp & chicken. We did an edamame quinoa salad, & chips and salsa for our sides.
We didn’t want to do the traditional/boring chicken, green bean, & mashed potato wedding dinner. So this meal totally fit us as a couple and our guests enjoyed it.

Yes! That’s exactly what I would want. I don’t want the traditional wedding food. I would want to have something that we both enjoy and something that our guest would have as well.

Our buffet reception will include, 2 diff salads, chicken, pasta and beef and 2 sides. I am contemplating on having a mashed potato bar but my FH is not a fan.
Our cocktail hour will have passed and displayed hors d'oeuvres.

I think food is definitely one of the most important aspects when it come to the reception. its what will really impact your guests. I would have you both sit down and see what you like and perhaps you can meet somewhere in the middle! i personally chose venue that served the food. (very good food i might add lol)

we had onion crusted chicken with jasmine rice and BBQ beef brisket with garlic mashed potatoes. both served with steamed beans and carrots. (nice light garden salad to start)

We're doing barbecue for the wedding, and we're doing a potluck Taco Bar for the rehearsal dinner (everyone in the wedding party is bringing a taco item, like meat, cilantro, tortillas, salsa, etc.).

When I was doing my research, it seemed that buffet style catering is usually a little cheaper than plated dinners, but I don't know if that's true everywhere.

We are doing both catering and home-cooked foods, with some things coming from a local place and some things coming from us. My brother is smoking ribs, my FILs are slow-cooking a brisket, and we're making a giant pot of baked potato soup, since it will be cold outside. We'll cater chicken, sauces, and other sides to make it easy, and we're also gonna have some hot dogs for the kids. Easy-peasy and fits well into our budget. :-)
