Never heard of that for a wedding. Sounds like it could be messy.

It would take a long time.

I've had a three course fondue meal for my birthday before at the Melting Pot. It was delicious and elegant, but it really did take forever. We were in the restaurant for two hours eating then went home with food babies. If you want anyone to dance after dinner, fondue is not the way to go.

I know fondue brings up many issues. I just want a fun dinner. We are having about 50 people. We want it to be something unusual and fun ! Any ideas would be so helpful. Thanks

It would take forever, not everyone likes it, and I'm sure people in the health professions will come up with a few facts about sharing. I've had restaurant fondue, but I've only shared with my husband or a few, close friends. The local restaurant, that specializes in fondue, is pretty expensive, too.

Oy.....I think I"d talk to a caterer first. They will probably have to rent equipment, and it DOES take a long time.

I would add it to the cocktail hour or dessert!

What is your guest count? Where are you having it? Is this even logistically possible.

Yes you would need to hire a caterer that specializes in fondue (if they even exist in your area) that has the equipment and staff necessary to pull this off.

I'd say this could make an AWESOME dessert but I'm not too sure about a whole dinner. Very cool idea, certainly original. I just think sounds better in idea than in execution. But definitely talk to your caterer!

It's a cool idea, but I think it's better for a birthday or a shower. My mom did my SILs shower at the melting pot and it worked out well. I think it would take to long for a wedding and would only work if you had a fondue caterer or had your reception at a place like the melting pot. Cool idea though.

The only thing going through my head is fondue + wedding dress = disaster. But maybe you're a more careful eater than I am Smiley smile

You would probably need tables seating a maximum of 4 for the whole sharing thing. I dunno about you, but I would not want to share food with Great Aunt Gerta whom I have never met.

If you insist on it, don't do three courses. Do cheese for dinner and keep it as short as possible. Or do a regular dinner and then chocolate fondue for dessert. I think that would be the best course of action. And make sure to have lots of napkins and wet naps sound. Fondue gets messy.

If you are looking for unusual of fun Why not talk to your caterer and see what they can come up with and make suggestions for? Your paying professionals, might as well utilize them to the fullest. If you haven't picked out a caterer maybe consider a food truck wedding that provides a not often seen alternative option. You could also consider a cocktail reception with a ton of different food choices of all different varieties and flavors. Also opting for a "station" wedding could be the answer with a taco station, bacon bar, mashed potato or mac n' cheese station, pasta station, slider station with french fries. Remember too that unless you are a wedding professional many people probably haven't experienced many dining options outside of a sit down or buffet meal, so you don't have to go too crazy to be different. Hope this helps :-)

There are plenty of other ways to make food fun, you could have a cocktail reception with different stations. I have seen slider bars, hot dog bars, taco bars. For desert you could have a chocolate fountain (kind of like fondue) or a Sunday bar.

@bubbles I read your post after I posted mine, great minds

I love fondue, but I wouldn't want three courses of it! I think an appetizer fondue in the place of a salad course would be lovely; it could be set up over cocktail hour and all ready when the guests come in to the reception. Or else chocolate fondue for dessert with fruit and marshmallows and cookie pieces (I'm so hungry now!).
