This exactly. Fondant does not taste good. If you want a certain look then it can be the way to go but buttercream is always going to be tastier

If your design can be done with buttercream, I would pick buttercream every time.

I would choose buttercream over fondant every time. Yes, fondant looks nice and smooth. But it tastes terrible! With the tools bakers have now, they should be able to make your buttercream really smooth as well. The quilted look might be a bit more tough though.

A good bakery can do MAGIC with buttercream! Fondant, while "pretty" (and it holds up a little bit better in heat - so like, outdoor wedding in mid-July) honestly tastes like crap lol. TEAM BUTTERCREAM! Smiley smile

I think most people prefer buttercream because it tends to be lighter. I made sure to research cakes for a summer wedding before we decided. I found buttercream is recommended because it holds up a little better (even indoors) although I can’t speak for everyone and every baker. We are going with an almost naked cake to put us between a regular iced cake and a naked one since we were told they could dry out. Who thought cakes would be so difficult. Good luck!

I personally don’t like fondant or buttercream and I always remove it from every cake. I have done all fondant cakes in the past years and no one has ever complain. I’m doing fondant simply because is more beautiful for the design and our wedding is outdoor in Mexico so I want to make sure the cake is standing for a long time.

I'd go buttercream personally. Plus not too many people enjoy fondant.

Technically, fondant is edible, but it's not really meant to be eaten. It is mostly to achieve a particular "finished" professional look to a cake. And most times, it tastes gross. If you're looking for the best tasting product, go with buttercream.
