fomo During Cocktail Hour

Caitlyn, on January 12, 2020 at 9:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hey ladies! Anyone else been planning the little details of their cocktail hour or pre-ceremony drink (if having one)?

I’ve been creating music playlists for each part of our day, and I just keep thinking of how much I’m gonna miss not being there during cocktail hour! I know we could do a first look and take all of our pictures before the ceremony, but I want my FW to see me as I’m walking down the aisle to her. No sneak peaks lol.
I’ll certainly be letting my guests know that I’ve jammed out to all of the music that was meticulously chosen to be played at our wedding. (I’ve already started jamming to them in the shower) My family knows me well, and I want every detail of our wedding to SCREAM “That’s so them!”.

Haha I kinda felt the same way about missing cocktail hour, but it was SO worth not doing a first look! During your wedding (and entire wedding weekend really) you need to get used to feeling fomo constantly because there is literally no way you will be able to do everything you want to do. After our rehearsal dinner, our friends were going back to the hotel, my and my husband’s immediate families were going back to my mom’s house, and my cousins were going back to my grandparents’ house. All of these people live far away, and having to choose which one to do was SO STRESSFUL. We ended up managing to do all 3 (mom’s house first, then grandparent’s, then hotel) but it all felt super rushed and felt like we kinda missed a lot of everything anyway lol. Plus at the reception it’s so weird being surrounded by so many people and you just want to spend like an hour or two talking to the people at each table but like that’s just not possible 😂

Just enjoy every moment to the best of your ability and try to make peace with it now that you ARE going to miss stuff inevitably, and that’s ok!

I’m not doing a first look either, but since we are getting married in a Catholic Church on a Saturday we do have a gap between the ceremony and the reception, which means more time to take pictures and then I can also enjoy the cocktail hour.

Depending on what you're looking for in your wedding photos, you could cut those shorter to enjoy a little bit of the cocktail hour. We're not doing First Look. I'm a simple bride and really only want a few sentimental photos taken with me and FH and our family/bridal party. Our bridal party and family will be released early on so they can enjoy it, and then we will cut time to be able to squeeze about 20min of cocktail hour Smiley smile

Thank you Gen! Thank you for making me feel a bit better about all of the day of stress! I’m already pulled in every which way for holidays with my family and I know our wedding will be the same if we don’t take charge and tell everyone our plan and continue to think about what we want to do.
