Folded Invitations!!!

MrsReed, on July 18, 2013 at 7:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

Ok so I had a Bridezilla moment today when my invitations arrived. After reviewing, I noticed that the invitations were folded - like a Hallmark card, not the card stock style as I initially thought.

Ok my fault.

But I honestly thought that "fold" was the design on the invite not that it actually folds! And yes I got a proof but then I thought, "oh it's like this because its only a proof, not the real one."

My fault again.

So after the yells and tears, I'm left with 2 choices; order new invitations or deal with it. The problem is that I've NEVER seen wedding invitations that come folded like a card until now. So this is weird to me. Are any of you ordering folded invites? Not tri folds, and not pocket folds.

Are folded invitations tacky??

My friend had folded invitations and I didn't think twice about it... If you like them it's totally fine.

The problem is that I hate them lol. They were not what I wanted (cue tears)!!!

But...everyone is telling me that its not a big deal since no one keeps them anyways. :-(

Well.. If you really hate them and can afford to order new ones I say go for it. IMHO I love invites, I do save all mine (yes, Im probably the only one) and I have tons of different variety wedding invites and I DON'T ever go back and say wow.. this is tacky.

Just do whatever is going to make you happy and not break the bank Smiley smile

I'm doing the folded kind, I'm still designing them so I haven't seen it in. person yet. So I'm hoping I won't hate them afterwards. But it was important to me to have a saying on the front of my invites that said a line in a certain song that FH had told me once when i was having a melt down. Which was " I'll follow you into the eye of the storm" ... So is it the invites itself you don't like or the fact it just folds?

Did you order them from that awesome place that a lot of brides ordered from?

@kris I don't mind the fold but it looks unfinished. Only the front fold is printed. The middle and back are blank. My bm actually suggested that I just glue it closed...I may try that.

@felicia I sure hope people keep mine lol That would make my day!

Oh ok... Well call the company and see if they will reprint them for you in the style that you like? If they say you have to buy them then ask if they can at least offer a discount. The worse that can happen is they say no and then you can decide whether or not you will deal with them as is. It's worth a shot : )

My invites came out jacked up and the company reprinted mine free of charge.

    Good Luck!

As long as there are no spelling errors I would use them. There is no way I would spend more money on invitations. I'm invited to a wedding in September. I've looked at the invite 3 times now for information and truthfully, I can't tell you what they look like.

@Marlina I just called. The rep felt so bad for me and offered a 10% discount if I want to reorder. She also said that its really not a big deal and to save my money. That I'd be better off putting it toward something else. Yes, the customer service rep said this lol Too sweet.

But @Annie's right. Other than the fold, they look perfect! Wouldn't make sense to reorder. I'll suck it up...

But I'm definitely gluing that sucka shut :-P

Not really sure how it folds, but if you are gluing them shut can you cut them with a paper cutter since you don't like them folded? Not sure how that would look and if it would mess them up totally.

Wow, i can't believe the company must left the inside blank and the back, any way you could Just cut them? And them wrap a ribbon and bow of your wedding colors on it? If not call the company see about re do, and all else false, go with that other company. That's who i went thur, and the Web site was so easy for me to work with

Could you cut them and glue them to some other type of card stock that's a little bigger using your wedding colors?

Well if it's literally just the front that has print on them just cut them in half. If there is something printed on the back. Just cut them in half and send them lilke that.

You can go to Kinko's or a fedex office, i think they're calling them now and use their industrial paper cutter. I think you may have to pay per cut or something so maybe price it out and see if it's worth spending money on or if you'd rather spend money on different invites.

Gluing them is good too. I'd suggest using a double sided tape not glue though. Glue can leave bumps and stuff. This stuff i used to make my DIY invites and it's crazy awesome. http://www.thermowebonline.com/p/memory-tape-runner-xl

You could cut them with a paper cutter. If it's just the front that's got printing on it, it shouldn't be too hard to slice along the fold.

If its able to be cut like M2H said, Kinkos, Staples and Office Max all have the big cutters. I know at staples its $2 per cut and they can do a big stack for that.

Thanks ladies! I rather glue / tape because the card is not as thick as it would be if it was card stock.

@M2H thanks! I'll look into that! I was worried that glue would cause that bubble clumpy look

@Maya I'm considering pasting it to another card stock as well.
