fmil and Shower Gifts

So I just had my shower for my FH side of the family and it went really well! The ladies were so sweet and nice. The only downside was they really only gave me cleaning products... I’ve never had so many bottles of floor cleaner in my life. LOL I was hoping to get some more of our dishes because we only have two place settings so far but we didn’t. I did get some bath towels from my FMIL along with more cleaning products and laundry detergent and I thought that was nice. But when I ran into Aldi today to buy groceries, I went down the home goods aisle and I saw literally everything she bought me. The bath towels, the cleaning supplies, literally all of it. From Aldi. (I registered for towels from Lands End btw) I started laughing about it but part of me is a little surprised. My future in laws have three homes and both work full time so money is not an issue. I’m kinda amused but also surprised that she didn’t just buy off of our registry.

Yea I had some people buy me similar items like ones I put on my registry but didn't buy the ones on my registry too

That's odd. If she's the type to do that to her future daughter in law, I'm sure she does it to everyone. At least it can be put to use! Maybe that's typical on his side of the family. I didn't get one cleaning product at my shower. The fact that you got so many makes me think that is standard with them.

My dad used to say that "rich people stay rich by not spending any money." That's what this sounds like to me. Your FHs family may have plenty of money, but maybe that's part of their secret to keeping it: bargain hunt like crazy, and never pay full price for anything!!
hahahaha!! Did you register for cleaning products? I only ask because where I'm from, that's a really weird shower gift, even if the couple is moving in to a new home.

Haha yeah, it was pretty funny. I didn’t register for cleaning products because I’ve lived on my own for 3 years and I have a bunch of products I already use that I’ll just move to our new house. FH told me after the shower that “stock the pantry” parties are common in his family and I guess that’s what I got haha. I hear that anything can be returned for store credit at Target though so some of those cleaning products may never reach my pantry....

I agree those are weird gifts, but it makes sense that the family is used to these kind of parties. Did they know u registered?

They definitely knew I registered at Crate and Barrel and Target because they said they looked at the registries to find my linen colors. 🙈 FMIL even asked how my china collection was coming at the shower... so awkward. Although maybe she was asking for wedding gift ideas. I hope haha.
