Flowers

Talia, on July 9, 2019 at 10:11 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 23

When did you guys decide on flowers and a florist? Did you wait until you picked out your bridesmaid dresses? Did you know from the start?

I need to start thinking about my flowers. I haven't had a consultation with a florist yet either. I'm so stumped on how I want my bouquet to look and my bridesmaids also. I am like stumped on centerpieces too and ceremony decor. I love flowers. I used to work with them. I think I'm overthinking this.

My wedding is Nov 9, 2019 and I secured my florist about a month ago, so 5 months before the wedding. I knew the color and dresses that my bridesmaids picked (they chose their design but all have the same color), but we are only doing greenery and white flowers so I knew that early on.

I knew what I wanted for flowers right from the beginning but we didn't go talk with a florist and make things official until 6 months out. My wedding is September 28th and we met with the florist back in March. I had bridesmaids dresses, my dress, guys tuxes all picked out before we went to the florist.

White is always classic and pretty. I think I might have to wait until we find a color for the bridesmaids. I know I want a blush pink or dusty rose color.

I know one thing we really want is something to decorate this gazebo we have. I mean I do have a while to go but I like to have it planned out.

I absolutely get it! I'm a planner as well. We got engaged in July 2017 and I started planning in Aug 2017 for a Sept 2019 wedding. If you know what you like then go for it! Would you decorate it with fake or real flowers?

I knew I wanted anemones (the ones in my profile pic), but I narrowed down the colors of other flowers until picking my wedding colors. I didn’t really care what type of flowers so I am renting mine from something borrowed blooms because they have a nice collection that fits my colors

Definitely real flowers. I just don't want to have to deal with making any arrangements.

Honestly the florist was the LAST vendor we booked - weren't even sure we wanted one since none of us are really "flower" people. Since we had literally no clue what we wanted, we just asked the florists we interviewed what they could envision with our colors and venue, and we picked the one that felt most like what we wanted (and fit our budget.)

I think just talking to a few who have work you like (and of course, fit your budget) will give you a little clarity. Smiley smile

We booked our florist in February for our December wedding, that's just because we weren't too busy then.

No dresses were picked out, but I knew where we were leaning towards. Our florist didn't mind because most of what I wanted were white and blush roses and those go with just about everything.

One florist I spoke with REFUSED to even speak to me without having dresses, invitations, cake, and venue picked out first. Dead serious.

I'm pretty sure FH doesn't care what we get. He just wants to know color and all. Our venue had an open house back in February and had all of their preferred vendors and there was 2 florists there. They didn't really talk pricing at all so that was lame. They both had real flowers displayed, one you could smell and the other you wouldn't believe they were real because of the smell. That stuck with me and FH for some reason! Yeah I will have to get talking to them soon. The main vendors we have to snag are cake, officiant and florist ( I think)

Oh god that scares me haha! I mean if you got colors down then any florist should work with you!

This was similar to my approach! I know nothing about flowers so picking a florist stressed me out. It was the last big vendor I booked. I did a few things to help myself: I followed the instagram accounts of florists near my venue so I could see their work. I saved things that I liked, especially if it was at my venue. I made a Pinterest with all the things I liked. Then I reached out to 6 or 7 florists who I liked. Most of them had detailed questionnaires they ask you to fill out (e.g. what kind of ribbon you want on your bouquet - I didn't even know there were multiple types of ribbon). I gave them all pretty much the same responses and provided my Pinterest. I told them all that I struggle with floral design and need their "vision" to help pull it all together. I did google "common wedding flowers" because they typically ask you if there are any flowers that you don't like, and while there aren't any flowers that I "don't like," there are some that didn't fit my theme. Then they all provided me written proposals with inspiration pictures and pricing. The pricing varied WILDLY - I mean by several thousand dollars - so I'm glad I got multiple quotes!

    Good luck!

I waited until I knew what my girls were wearing. Originally, I thought everyone would be holding red roses but after the girls chose maroon dresses (I gave options) I thought light pink or white roses would be better so they'd pop more. I will be carrying red roses!

Yeah needless to say I didn't choose them. I didn't even want a consultation at that point, I just wanted some starting prices to get an idea of what I could afford.

I planned to use the same florist as my sister, so I only met with one! We booked in February for our November wedding, which was a little early. My florist needed the bridesmaid dress color, # of bouquets/corsages/boutonnieres, the ceremony/reception venue, and also asked me to pull together some ideas (I made a Pinterest board and sent it to them). They asked if I had any specific flowers I wanted or did not want. At the consultation, they pulled up lots of pictures and made it feel very effortless. One recommendation I have is to look for a florist that doesn't have a minimum spend! Mine does not, and was willing to work with whatever budget # I gave them.

Select and book your florist as soon as you can. But, you will not want to meet with the florist to select anything until you have your wedding color palette and bridesmaids dresses.

I do follow one florist that actually has been to my venue who's style is nice. I just like that they worked there before. I'm going to have to do that and check these other florists out. I do have one florist i don't want to use. Thank you!
