Flowers! What is the typical budget for it?

futuremrsdeleon, on March 28, 2018 at 12:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 16

I have received a few quotes ranging from $1800 to under $1k

What is the reasonable amount to spend for flowers?

Thank you!

There is no typical budget for it. It all depends what you want and the florist you use. You can tell different florists exactly what you want and the price difference could be huge. Our wedding is small so we didn't need much but chose roses which are obviously more than other flowers. One place quoted us almost 3k and we found an incredible florist that is doing it for 700. I'd figure out what you want (maybe 2 ideas if you're worried about spending too much) and price them out. Depending on what you're getting up to $1800 Is a great price.

It honestly all depends on how much you’re getting and what type you’re getting. Flowers that are in season will be cheaper compared to those that aren’t. And some flowers are just more expensive than others.

If you are getting a large amount of flowers with pretty packed bouquets and arrangements, 1,800 isn’t bad at all. Make sure the delivery and set up fee is already included in that price.

For reference, we are paying 3,300 for our flowers. But we are getting pretty large arrangements with candelabras, as well as low centerpieces and flowers for the arch and ceremony space.

I personally can't justify spending much more than 1k on flowers, but that varies from couple to couple.

Whats the difference between those quotes other than the florist? Are delivery fees included? Do they use the same number and types of flowers and size bouquets? Include the same number of items? Do you like working with all of these florists or do you prefer one over the others? Those are some of the key differences that you should consider, like you would with any other wedding vendor. My photographer was more expensive than some others we looked at but I've worked with her before and she's so amazing and sweet and fun, and her package included more hours and rights to the photos afterwards.

This is going to depend on season, type of flower and your area. No ones budget will really mirror someone elses.

We budgeted 1200.. ended up at 600 by going with a local woman who works with her daughter for weddings.

Have to find the average in your location-it will vary greatly from state to state and city to city. I had quotes from $900 to $5,500. I interviewed a florist who quoted me $900, and didn't go with her because during the interview she stopped to sell flowers. The flowers she sold were not the best, brown and spotted, dying flowers. I ended up paying $1400 for flowers.

Depends so much on what you want!

I am paying $250 for a bride bouquet, MOH bouquet, 4 corsages and 8 boutonnieres. All red roses, hand tied.

I don’t know what the typical budget is but for us I can’t possible do anything over a firm 1k for flowers.

This is going to vary widely. People have different size bridal parties, guests lists which affects # of center pieces, ceremony decor... I would contact a few places. I got two floral quotes and both were within $100 to each other. I found in my area those of similar skill level were pretty darn close in pricing. Cheaper florist, well the final product reflected that. But for some people that doesn't matter.

There's no "typical" budget and no average price. There are many determining factors: location (state/city), popularity of florist, time of year, type of flowers, and of course, how much you need. Obviously, the cost for someone who has 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen and needs 20 centerpieces, plus a flowers for altar would be generally more expensive than someone with only a MOH and has 5 tables. I only had personal flowers: 1 Bride bouquet, 1 MOH bouquet, 1 FG petite bouquet, 1 wrist corsage and 7 boutonnieres. I live on Long Island but got married in Brooklyn. I wanted in season, bright summer flowers and my only caveat was I wanted no lilies and my husband wanted an orchid in his boutonniere. I got quotes from over 10 florists, some on Long Island, some in Brooklyn and some in Manhattan (pretty close to the venue). Every quote was over $800, some coming in at $1200! With each quote, the individual prices for items were drastically different. one charged $150 for the bride bouquet but boutonnieres were $36 each (I kid you not). One charge $12 for boutonnieres but wanted $175 for a tiny flower girl bouquet. I almost gave up and was ready to cancel my last appt. for a quote with a local florist on Long Island but my husband convinced me to go. Well, I almost fainted when the florist quoted us $287 for everything. I thought she made a mistake. After I put down the deposit, I started worrying about it since I was thinking, if everyone else is over $800, what will I be getting for $287? She seemed to understand what I was looking for and even asked me for pictures to give her an idea of what I wanted. I thought I was going to get a bouquet of 10 half dead carnations - LOL! To my surprise, the flowers were gorgeous and exactly what I wanted. This is why I tell brides to keep shopping around - there's tons of competition out there and you will find someone in your budget.

Agree with PP that there is no typical budget, it depends on where you are located, what type and how many flowers/arrangements you want, etc. Florals is definitely something that I did not expect to cost as much as they do and had to rearrange our budget once we had a reality check when we started to price things out.

If it helps, we will be paying just over 2k for:

    -Bouquets: 1 bridal, 5 BM

    -Bouts: 1 groom, 5 GM, 2 fathers, 1 ring bearer, 1 BIL

    -Corsages: 2

-flower crowns: 1 bridal, 1 flower girl

-table arrangements: ~ 9 tables (will be determined after rsvps) and we are doing a collection of bud vases as centerpieces + 1 sweetheart table (probably garland)

    -accent piece for arbor

    + delivery & set up

I think thats it... also, to put into perspective, we are in a high COL area and our florist is actually giving us a bit of a discount as we will be her first solo & non-friend wedding (she has worked at a florist for years but is starting her own business and is doing 2 weddings before ours but they are friends of hers, so we kind of found her in a sweet spot). The first few places that we priced were over 3K.

We spent about $3500 on flowers, but they were relatively important to me and we had a large wedding (220 guests attended) so there were a lot of centerpieces. "Reasonable" is whatever you want and can afford Smiley smile

I got quotes from 3 florists and they varied greatly. One was $4,100, another $3,500 and the florist I ultimately went with $1,300. The higher priced one charged a crazy amount for delivery and set up. My chosen florist works out of her home, so lower overhead costs, and buys wholesale, so that is why she is able to do my vision for a lot less. I also get to keep all the vases so no ridiculous renting fees! Definitely shop around and you may get lucky!

My mom is doing my flowers... she's more of a hobbiest than a professional because of some injuries, but all of my friends have used her too.

When you're trained for this sort of thing they tell you to take the cost of flowers and double it for any arrangement... then multiply that doubled amount by five for weddings. That's how much your florist is charging you. Depending on how much you're doing (types of flowers, #in bridal party, altar pieces, reception decor) it can definitely cost $1800.

Definitely suggest trying to find a florist that works out of the home and isn't charging "wedding rates". You can also save by doing delivery but no set up. Find a few cousins or close friends to quickly put centerpieces on tables and you're good to go.

I’m going to the local flower vender and buying bouquets there. I want extra roses so I’m going to order some from Costco! Great prices and Costco btw!

I highly suggest you shop around as much as possible! I agree, I've discovered in my search that florals can run the gamut especially when depending on what type of flowers and style you like. I love tall centerpieces, and would ideally like to incorporate peonies and garden roses, but those would've been well outside of my price range!

We budgeted $1500, but we realized that was unrealistic in this area. We live in Fort Lauderdale. For the reception tables we settled on a combination of tall hydrangea and roses centerpieces, some low hydrangea centerpieces, and a third style of hydrangeas and candles which brought the cost down. One particular florist mentioned that she could also tie in more eucalyptus greenery to slightly scale back on the roses and hydrangeas. That's one way you might be able to trim expenses, I've learned.

I've been quoted as high as $2505 for the same and as low as $1995, and that's just from quotes from small florist shops. I believe the big high-end shoppes would've charged at least $3k for the same.

So there really are so many factors that determines your budget.

For $1995, from the florist I'm currently talking to, I'm getting:
    9 bouttinierres
    2 corsages
    5 bridesmaid bouquets
1 large cascading bouquet for me
    Flowers put on cake
    Wooden arch to rent
Flowers for the arch (that they will dismantle and repurpose for the sweetheart table after the ceremony)
1 arrangement for the escort card table
A 6 candle arrangement for the guest book table
4 tall hydrangea and rose centerpieces
4 low hydrangea and rose centerpieces
3 flower/ candle style arrangement centerpieces (the candles helped bring the cost of flowers down - and she's renting the candles to me)

These are some examples she provided. So I'm pretty happy with a quote of just under $2k. I shopped around and felt it was really decent for where we live. (At least I hope!)
