Flowers and delivery

Alissa, on July 25, 2019 at 12:29 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8
My fiancé and I are getting married in a city three hours away from where we live. I have been toying with the idea of having our florist be from where we live and have us bring up the flowers to our wedding location. I’m worried that they will dry out or get destroyed in transit, but it seems more convenient than driving to our wedding city to talk to someone. Has anyone done something like this or other experiences? Thanks!

Just a warning, most florists won't want to drive that far, or if they do they will probably charge a hefty delivery fee! We are getting married 3 hours from where we live as well, and we hired someone who lives in the city we are getting married in. Much easier, we did it all over phone/email/skype, and they have experience with our venues so it all works out great!

Driving a few hours for a meeting, or even doing a Skype meeting, seems much more convenient to me than transporting all of your wedding flowers the same distance.

I would just hire someone from the city you are getting married in. Phone calls, emails of inspiration photos do just as well as a face to face visit honestly. Most have websites now too, so I was able to pick through their previous weddings to pick out what I wanted.

Transporting flowers is a big pain and tough on the flowers. They take up a ton of space, need to sit in water, need a temperature controlled environment. The more stress you put them through before your wedding, the droopier they’ll look for your big day. A local-to-the-wedding florist is a much better idea.

Our florist is halfway between us and our venue. She met us in the city we live in for our first meeting. She will transport the flowers up to our venue on the wedding day and will be there until the reception to decorate and make sure everything goes smoothly.

If we had not found one at the halfway point, I would have chosen one close to my venue location. Delivery fees are high for florist and I would not want the responsibility of transporting everything. Especially since you will likely go up the night before the wedding.

I think a florist closer to your venue would work a lot better. A lot of them have experience with the venues and can give you an idea of what looks good where. I live an hour and a half away from our venue, and we're going with a florist 10 minutes from the venue.

I agree with this. I got married 2 hours away and hired a florist local to that area. We did everything by phone and emails. My wedding planner created a powerpoint of our wedding vision and I told my florist my favorite/must have flowers. I knew from her website that she did great work and I was not disappointed. She got every detail perfect even better than I could have imagined.
