***FLOWER WALLS***

TIERRA, on November 11, 2015 at 5:26 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 38

Has anyone used them? Can anyone recommend a vendor? has anyone made one themselves? Photos are welcomed.

I think they are stunningly gorgeous and would love to have one but seriously doubt I have room in the budget Smiley smile Any florist who does wedding flowers should be able to do one, but it will definitely cost a lot of money!

Thanks Lynnie! I kind of figured the price would be high but I fell in love with the idea of having one. Been on a few florist websites in my area and they haven't made mention of it. Maybe I have to call.

Your post made me want to look into this more because I actually did inquire about a flower wall when first meeting with florists. Not sure where you're located, but I'm in Philly and one florist quoted me $12k to do a flower wall, along with all my other florals. Based on knowing what they charge for bridal bouquet, BM bouquets and the like, I'd say the flower wall would've been at least $8k of that. No thanks! So after seeing your post, I did a quick search on flower walls and found a bunch of sites that do paper flower walls. Check this one out: http://mavenbride.com/top-ten-diy-paper-flower-backdrops/

Now that I've been re-inspired on this, I may do more research to see if I can fit this in the budget! I'm not crafty, so I don't trust myself to be able to DIY something like this, lol. Another idea that came to mind while researching was a brooch wall. I'm also looking into how much it would cost to buy some lots of brooches to pin to foam board or something and use that in place of flowers.

My florist asked if I wanted one, but knowing how much he charges for other things, I didn't even ask how much he would charge for one. He's a friend of mine, so I could ask for a general cost of it would help you. (I'm based in Seattle & he also does weddings in the LA area.)

Not doing a wall, but will do a backdrop similar to this one. We will use it at the reception for the photo booth.

@Tierra - I would also bet that most florists don't have flower walls listed as a service on their wedding profiles or websites yet, because it's a newer trend and something that not everyone can afford. I would just ask florists if they can do it and I'm sure they'll pull together a custom quote!

Yesterday after some research, I have decided to make it a DIY project and I'm going to make 2 of them. One for the ceremony/sweet heart table and one for the step and repeat. It will be an 8 ft by 8 ft because I cannot justify spending 8K on something I will only use once. LOL

Glad you decided to do fake flowers! Most people probably won't get close enough to notice they are fake, and they will look just as pretty (if not prettier, fresh flowers would kinda wilt after a while, wouldn't they?) and will just be less hassle. And it won't cost you the price of an entire smaller-budget wedding. I looove them though, so pretty!

This is VERY expensive to do. The amount of flowers we use to do a beautiful peace is INSANE. We did a flat block of babies breath for a seating card table... the amount of babies breathe we needed to make that small piece appear FULL was crazy. The image I'm posting took between 8-10 BUNCHES of babies breath.

Flower walls use roses, carnations, hydrangeas... all those flowers need to be packed tightly in order to hide the chicken wire and foam behind the stems. You end up doing several layers of flowers to keep the mechanics out of sight -- and that's a must. We added greenery around the base to hide the foam, and some roses and petals for a little added interest.

As you can see this is hardly a large piece, let alone massive.

Also - very, very time consuming.

We had a flower wall that I rented from a friend. She made it for her wedding and it was beautiful (silk flowers). So, it definitely can be made for a reasonable price, but I wouldn't trust myself to do it!

My friend made the one Katy mentioned and used above. She rents it out locally. That said, you can do it more affordably if you are willing to consider silk flowers instead of real. Granted silk flowers are still not cheap.

Thanks, Jessi, I wish I knew how to recreate it myself! The talent was someone else's, but I guess it can be done!

I'm making a flower wall...I bought bulk foam flowers from china in different colors (ivory, blush, red, peach, etc). I bought a foam board and super glued them on. FH is going to get ply wood to put the foam board on to so it'll remain steardy.

I'll find a picture...i've posted it on here a while ago tho

If you have Hulu Plus there is an episode of Petal Pushers where they make a flower wall for a photo shoot backdrop. They used straight pins to pin the flowers onto the backdrop, but I don't remember if they shared what the backdrop was made from.
