Flower Seeds/favors

Deanna, on December 22, 2017 at 11:35 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

Is anyone else doing flower seeds as a wedding favor?
We are having our reception in a garden so I figured it would a cute idea but I have no clue where to find the seeds in bulk at because I want to make my own packaging for them.

Any ideas???

Cute idea, but as a guest I wouldn't take them. Even if it fit your theme, I don't have a green thumb, I kill everything, and I don't plant flowers usually so this would be a waste to me. I might take one to be polite, it'll sit around, then I'll throw it out eventually.

Might I suggest an edible favor? Something still in your theme but more useful to those of us who don't have a green thumb?

Agree with FutureMrsKC it is really cute, but as a guest I would take one to be polite but I would end up throwing it out. It is really cute though.

Maybe do a cute watering can with edible treats inside instead of flowers? People like M&M's.

I thought about some edible ones but we are having a smore's bar with the cake so they are getting plenty of treats.

You might just want to go without favors? If a lot of people don't take them you'll be left a bunch. You could use that money for personalized napkins for cocktail hour or something else that will add a personal touch and be more useful.

I couldn't find see packets I liked, so I did tulip bulbs. My wedding was at a greenhouse in September so it was also an ideal time for planting!

(I think this thread got posted a few times)
Yes! They were set out for any guests who wanted them to take. There were none left at the end of the night and I heard from lots of guests throughout the fall, letting me know when they planted them, sending pics, etc. It was a hit!

WW doesn't give you the option anymore to pick a couple different topics to place it under, since it could go under a few. If it's in the new rules that I can't do that, then OOPS. haha.

I'm glad they were a hit for you!! My family has a lot of plant growers, so I hope this works out. I have a few others telling me to do some edible but they are already getting a smore's bar for a late night snack and cake... I want to do something unique and fun.

I think if the seeds are taken that they will just be thrown out, and that's a waste. I don't think everyone is a gardener, or has the space to plant seeds .

Ha, I'm still getting used to the new forum, I thought it was a glitch that made it post multiple times.
Yeah, my whole wedding was garden themed and it was a perfect choice for us...we also have a lot of gardeners and some who appreciated the idea who weren't avid gardeners. It sounds like it would work for you guys too! We put a note about it in the program so those who wanted them would know to stop by and grab some!

Yeah I don't think enough people will be garden-savvy enough to really use this. If you aren't doing something you can eat or drink, I would skip it,

My venue actually specializes in bulbs imported from Holland and they will ship anywhere! It's Dutch Mill Greenhouse in Marysville, OH - you can connect with them in their website if you'd like!

My friend spent hours making these up for her wedding and only 2 people took them. They seem adorable but if you go with them plan on having a lot of left overs.

If you have OOTguests, this can be very damaging. Flowers that are native to your area can be very damaging to another. Also as a guest I wouldn’t take these either.

It's a cute idea but if it isn't edible, forego it. My sister bought a ton of succulents as favors for my shower and no one wanted them. I had antique key bottle openers as one of my favor. Only two of 65 people took them.

I went to a wedding once where seeds were the favor. We got little terra cotta pots that were painted in their colors and had the names and date on it. The seed packets were then just sitting in the pots. There was one at each place setting, and every person got a different type of seed, some flowers, some vegetables. I thought it was cute. I did plant my seeds, and I've been using the little pot to collect coins for almost 12 years now

Super cute, I just don’t think people will actually use them ☹️ I would save your money to enhance a different aspect of the wedding!

I love the idea. My best friend gave packets of sunflower seeds as her favors, and I planted them at my house and my parents house. If people don't use them, oh well. People will think they are cute at the very least, and I feel like the intention is most important with favors. Also, flower pots and windows exist Smiley tongue

    Back to the seeds....
Find a local seed company near you, and request a seed catalog. They always have fascinating plants, lots of cool heirloom crops, and seeds are super cheap! I order from a company in a different region frequently, and my plants always do fine here.

    Good luck!
