Flower Petal Alternatives

Sarahrenee, on April 18, 2017 at 11:02 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

So my FH and I picked out an outdoor venue for our ceremony and reception a while ago. We figured out our wedding party and we have two flowergirls. This past week, I've gotten really nervous about the possibility of bad weather, so I started looking for a venue that could do either indoor or outdoor. We found one that works perfectly, but outdoors they do not allow rice or flower petals to be thrown. I love my flower girls, any ideas on something I can have them do instead?

I am in the same situation, and I'll start by offering the alternatives that I was given (but I don't really like - they may be your thing)

    1. A kissing ball. Think like mistletoe, but round and carried down the aisle by your flower girls (ETA: exactly what @Mrs Knoelle shared in her picture)

    2. Signs. Something cute like "here comes the bride." I've seen blended families incorporate this beautifully by having the daughter of one party carrying a sign that says "Get ready Daddy... here comes mommy!" I've seen more casual brides do this humorously by having their 2 flower girls carry signs, the first one saying "turn off your cell phones!" And the second saying "She means it!"

    3. Rings. You mention flower girls but not ring bearers, are you having any? If not, your girls could take on that role and carry ring pillows forward.

    4. Have them carry materials for your unity ceremony. Will you be doing a hand fastening/ unity candle / sand ceremony/ any of the multitude of unity ceremonies? Your FG could carry materials for that.

    5. Smaller versions of bouquets, either yours or the BMs.

    6. Have them hand single long-stem roses (or other flowers) to guests sitting along the aisle as they process.

    7. Blow bubbles- check with your venue though, because if they don't allow tossed flowers they might not allow bubbles either.

And finally.... my latest idea and what I will likely do:

    8. Ribbon wands! Long ribbons in your wedding colors attached to sticks that the girls can twirl in the air or wave around as they walk.

    Hope this helps!

We had these as our aisle decorations. The fgs could carry them.

Our flower girl is carrying a pomander ball (made of hydrangea) because of the same reasons! Our venue didn't allow flower petals nor bubbles, so we had no other choice Smiley smile

We had this same issue with our venue as its a zoo and they can be harmful to the animals since they are hard to clean up after. They said that a lot of people would do the whole heads of flowers and it was really pretty and easy to clean up. (I think that a lot of venues have that rule because of the hard clean up) I would ask them for suggestions or ask them if the whole heads would be ok. We are going to be using small daisies. Smiley smile

One of my fgs will be carrying a "kissing" ball. The other one will be dropping pennies. After my grandpa's death my grandma started finding pennies around her house. Now she is a cleaning machine. She can't sit and watch 2 mins of tv if a single fork is in the sink dirty. However she started finding these pennies. At the same time some of the other members of my family started finding them as well.. no one told each other about the pennies until the first Christmas after he was gone and we all found an unexplained penny... like in our gift but the giver didn't put it there knowingly... or stuck to the bottom of a shoe.. it was all bizarre. We started talking and it all seem to coincide with my grandpa's... his favorite place to sit, where he did his work or things he loved.. so now our family takes finding random pennies a sign of grandpa. He was suppose to be the one to walk me down the aisle so this is my way of his doing so.

At my brother's wedding the flower girl threw (actually placed one by one) leaves that the ring bearers collected the day before. See if that may work? It was really cute for a fall wedding.
