Flower girls - tights or socks?

alexandra, on December 11, 2021 at 9:16 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
My wedding is one week from today and I just realized that I don’t know what the flower girls are wearing under their dresses! They are both 2 so they would probably be more comfortable with something under their dress shoes. Their dresses are tea length and obviously it’s a december wedding so it will be cold. In the dresses look long in the pictures but that was before the “poof” went in underneath their skirts so it will be a bit shorter. I don’t know what would look best with their dresses. All opinions welcome! Flower girls - tights or socks? 1

I would just leave it up to the oarents. What would they prefer? Either will look fine.

Well, one of them is mine and the other is my fiancé’s niece so I pretty much have full say

For a winter wedding I think it would be adorable to have red tights with the white dress and white tights with the red dress

I do love a frilly/lace top sock on a flower girl, but I agree that in winter tights would be warmer so I’d go for that . I also agree red with the white dress and white with the red dress would be adorable!

Since it's in December which is a cold month I'll say do both tights and ruffle socks...

I was going to say tights, because they're warmer - but CountryBride makes an excellent point, if they aren't potty trained (and entirely reliable), then socks is the way to go

Tights for kids used to be super thick and warm opposed to the sheer stockings for women. I would worry about thick/warm socks not being able to fit in dress shoes without causing pain so they can’t walk, so keep them on the thinner side if possible.

If they do wear diapers or pull-ups, you don’t need to remove the tights completely.

My vote is whatever parents think is best. Otherwise I think tights would be more appropriate - more comfortable for colder temps, and would prevent any "little girl lifting her dress up" issues that kids sometimes do. But parents know their kids best. Some kids run cold and others are always hot. Some have sensory issues with different fabrics. So I would default to the parents, but otherwise find something that the girls are comfortable in and would look nice.

Because the dresses are different, I don't think the tights/socks need to match either - one can wear tights and the other socks if that makes them more comfortable. I would opt for undergarments that match the dress the girl is wearing if possible, otherwise white/ivory for both would work.

With your wedding being in December I would suggest the tights they have some white ones that would look beautiful under both dresses. That way you know they will be warm and still look beautiful. Congrats on the big day!

Tights to keep them warm and covered...usually at that age they lift up their dress at least once in public. It would be nice to have their diapers or panties covered.

This is a great point! If they lift their dresses up as 2 year olds are prone to do, tights would definitely be the better options!

I was thinking ivory for both, just for consistency. Thanks, you’re definitely right about dress lifting and normal temps running high or low plus the sensitivity to materials. All great points to take into consideration.
