Flower girls? My daughter in a separate dress?

Ty, on January 7, 2021 at 8:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
I am having 4 flower girls (couldn’t leave the little ones out) one of girls is my 6 year old daughter. I want her to stand out in a different dress/color. What are your thoughts around this? I added the pics below for reference.

I think a similar dress in a different color would be fine, or with a different color sash. If you give her a much fancier dress, I think that might cause hurt feelings among the other girls. Depends on the kids.

I agree with this. It is pretty rare for kids to not get hurt feelings when one gets something better/different from the rest.

Yes, I wanted her in a different dress, but I understand how this can hurt parents & kids feelings.

What is your relation to the other flower girls? If they're your stepkids, then it would be hurtful to have your daughter stand out. If they're a more distant relation such as cousins, that would be understandable.

That second dress is beautiful, but it's a grown up dress. I doubt a 6 year old would be comfortable in it. Are you going to bustle it for her after the ceremony? How is she going to go to the bathroom in it? Is she going to cry and fuss if someone steps on her train? Maybe it's just me, but it says more child bride/overworked pageant girl than cute flower girl.

I'd do the same dress as the others in a darker or lighter shade. I also like PP's suggestion of a sash.

The other girls are my bridesmaids daughters, just friends. The train is removable, so I would remove it for the reception. I am gearing towards the same dress in a different color, or just the same dress overall for all the girls. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

I agree that it could cause the other little girls to be jealous. I recall a time when my mother-in-law bought a unicorn sticker book for my nieces and the two little girls fought over it because they both wanted the book. I kind of just looked at my mother-in-law like what were you thinking 🤦

I recommend they wear the same dresses. Kids get jealous easily

They don't need the exact same dress. But similar party dresses, not a style so much older and more formal. If you want her different, just get her a jewel color while the others are in pale colors, or vice versa. Not her in a Princess dress everyone would want, when ordinarily they would be thrilled with a party dress. Also, as a mother of 5, I always hate seeing a child in a very expensive dress easily ruined with a little spilled punch or greasy or chocolaty fingers. Everyone is all over them to preserve the clothes, not get messy. Other family, other guests. They cannot help it. She will have a better time, and not cause bad feelings with other kids' moms, If the difference is just color.
If is a lovely dress, though.

Yes, I can see her being careful to not spill on it. & the other girls just prancing around.

I really like the princess dress so I may have them all wear it.
