Flower girls going barefoot for the ceremony

Lauren, on August 3, 2019 at 9:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

My sister came up with this idea, that my flower girls should walk down the aisle barefoot throwing petals, rather than buying shoes that they may not wear again, and that they'll find uncomfortable. For the rest of the wedding they should wear whatever shoes they want. I think that this may be a good idea, We're having a summer wedding, and it'll be warm, so I don't think they'd mind being barefoot. My flower girls will be 7 and 9 years old at the time of the wedding. Has anybody seen this or done this? Do you think this is a good idea or not.

I would probably find it odd that the flower girls were randomly barefoot unless you were having a beach wedding, but whatever floats your boat.

If the parents are okay with it, I don't see why not. As long as there's nothing hazardous in the girls' paths!

I also think this would be odd unless you're having a very casual wedding. My flower girls wore white ballet flats.

If its a casual, hippy or beach wedding it'd be normal.

I think it could work in a more formal wedding though if their dresses were white. I've been to a wedding where the flower girls went barefoot. The white dresses make it seem more natural and fitting , it wouldn't really work if the flower girls dresses matched the bridesmaids gowns

If the parents are fine with it and so long as the path isn't dirty or dangerous then you can go for it.

I’ve never heard/seen that before. If you’re having a beach wedding I feel like it would be totally normal, otherwise I feel like it would be a little weird. I think for the ceremony they could just wear some cute inexpensive flats/sandals, and then after change into whatever they want like you said. As long as you’re okay with it and don’t mind then go for it.

I agree that I'd find this weird and potentially unsafe/uncomfortable. Especially in August, anyone in the wedding party can wear sandals, or as others mentioned ballet flats, even at a more formal wedding. Daughter's FG's mom found cute ballet flats for the girls at Target for ~ $10, so no big financial investment. I'm a So Cal native and we ALWAYS wear flip flops at the beach because the sand can literally burn our feet, so even if you are having a beach wedding, I'd have them wear something. On other outdoor surfaces they can step on rocks or something else sharp, and if the ceremony is indoors there are health codes that typically require shoes. This would not be an issue I'd consider to cut costs.

Little girls with pretty dresses and flowers and summer time with bare feet? Adorable!
They can wear blingy flip flops or sandals after the ceremony .

Remember, it's your wedding... Your opinion is the one that matters.
    I don't think it's weird at all...its just your personal preference, that's all. ❤

Hey Lauren! Have you decided to go with this idea? I think it would look really sweet
