flower girl/ring bearer age?

Mrs. G, on October 7, 2016 at 1:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I want to have my fiance's first cousins as a flower girl and ring bearer. She is 10 and he is 8 (I think they will be 11 and 9 at the wedding).

I was wondering if that is too old to technically "call" them a flower girl and ring bearer?

The only other option would be my 1st cousin who is 3 and I know she will cry the entire time (she's a problem child which is why I don't want to invite children to our wedding - I've seen her at events and she has been kicked out before). I am also having a very large wedding so if we have children, that would be a lot more seats.

Those two would be the only children at the wedding. They are the most well behaved children. I really want to call her a flower girl, but don't know if it would be appropriate. What do you think?

My son is 9 and when I got married a few weeks ago, I called him a "Jr groomsman". I didn't have a ring bearer. (We had a flower girl but she is 3.) so maybe call them Jr bridesmaid and Jr groomsman? We also had no one under 18 invited except our nieces and nephews (and my son of course!). No one was offended that I know of. Just make sure to have "adult reception" on the response card

My niece was the flower girl in my brother's wedding along with another girl and they were 10 and 12. I think you're good with your fiance's first cousins.

I'm also in the same boat. My niece is 10 nephew is 9. I think they'll be 11-12 by the time we get married. I have a lot of cousins with younger kids but I feel it would be rude to only pick one of them. So if my niece and nephew decide against it we're doing away with a flower girl and ring bearer.

I'm wondering about this as well. My FH kids will be 14 and 7 at the time of the wedding. FH son will carry the rings and FH daughter wants to throw petals. I don't know that title really means much.

I'm skipping the ring bearer and flower girl all together. My son who will be 9 will be a Jr groomsmen.

Ask the kids. Or have the parents ask them. Honestly at 10/11 she might feel like its a "baby" job. and 9 year old boys can be a nightmare. It really just depends on the kids.

My ring bearer is 7 and flower girls are 8. I asked my cousins daughter is 8 and she told me "no, thats for babies".

Our ring bearers and flower girls are 2-6. We also have four kids in the family that will be 7-11 at the time of the wedding. They are our candle lighters and junior bridesmaids.
