Flower Girl vs. Junior Bridesmaid

cMarie, on March 12, 2017 at 12:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18

What would be the ideal age range for a flower girl? My little sister will be 8 y/o by the time I get married. Should she be a junior bridesmaid or can I get away with her being my flower girl?

My daughter is 8 years old and is going to be my flower girl. So should be fine to have her be the flower girl. When I hear junior bridesmaid I think of the 10-14 age range. But it is your choice in how you want to do it. Good luck

It is your choice, but you might also want to think about, what if the bridesmaids want to throw you a bachelorette, etc? Will you/they feel obliged to invite the junior bridesmaid? Will that change the type of party they can have?

Flower girl is fine. I'm personally not into all these layers of hierarchy in a bridal party. Keep it simple.

My 7 year old goddaughter was my bridesmaid yesterday (never called her "junior") and other than the Bachelorette party she was just as involved, if not more, than my adult BMs! From day one when she was checking Pinterest and giving feedback on my dress inspiration pics it just felt right to include her as a BM! But it just depends on your relationship with your sister and her maturity level.

My daughter didn't want the title of flower girl. She's 9 and wanted to be a junior BM. I left it up to her. We're not really printing it any where, so it doesn't matter to me.

My niece will be 9 when I get married and she is going to be a junior bridesmaid and she loves that idea of it all.

    Flower girl, definitely.

This trend of flower girls being toddlers is new and IMO, not really appropriate. It used to be that even 12 year olds were considered for the role of flower girl.

Junior bridesmaid is usually teens, like 14 or 15. I think anything under 13 is too young for any kind of bridesmaid.

Usually I say junior bridesmaid, but since she's 8 she can probably be a flower girl. I'd say anything over 9 is junior BM territory

Flower girl is perfectly fine, I would also just ask her what she wants to be if you don't care

My cousin will be 12 when we are married, I personally think that's too old for a flower girl and she's quite tall haha. I'm gonna ask her to be a junior bridesmaid although I'm just asking her to be a 'bridesmaid'. Obviously she wouldn't come to the bachelorette party if I have one, but she lives in another state so that's not a big deal

ETA I agree that maybe you should ask her which she'd rather be Smiley smile

I asked my 8 y/o sister and she was so thrilled!

If she hasn't acted excited I would have ordered junior bridesmaid.

My niece will be just under 10 years old when she is my flowergirl. I let her choose what she wanted to be

I asked my sister (who is going to be 9) which title she preferred. We talked about the different things she'd do at the wedding depending on the title (throw petals versus carry a bouquet). She decided on junior bridesmaid. Also, Azazie let us custom order a junior bridesmaid dress way shorter than their standard lengths, so she matches the adult bridesmaids. I thought for sure we'd have to find a dress in the other wedding color! She's not even bothered to not be involved in bachelorette planning.
