Flower girl supopsed to match the bride?

M2H, on March 8, 2013 at 4:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So i'm jsut starting to look for a flower girl dress, is there any traditional style of flower girl dress? I'm doing a 50's vintage wedding. i would say best way to explain the style is mad men. How could i make that reflect on her dress?

Should the flower girl match the bride's dress?

Does it really matter at all?

I would kind of like the flower girl to match the BM dresses (not picked out but have asomething in mind) if possible or have her in polka dots. Either full polka dots which might be too much, or at least a polka dot top half or sash. Should i just stick with a white dress for her? Suggestions please! Thanks!

It doesn't really matter, I've seen some FG's match the bride, some match the bridal party and some have a fashion look all their own.

I like the polka dots idea... I think it would be super cute!

Oh duh i didn't even think of googling it yet. I just started looking and have been checking bridal sites and all the flower girl dresses just look the same to me. So it just got me thinking.

    @Cynthia thanks

I told the Mom of my FG that should could wear any semi-casual ivory or lite pink dress that was similar to the examples I sent. She can wear ivory to match me or light pink to contrast with the bridesmaids (they are wearing "rosewood" color dresses).

    It's really up to you!

@bittsey I def could do that too. Polka dots are everywhere right now so i'm sure it'd be easy to find a girl's dress in polka dots.

My flower girls are actually wearing jr bridesmaids dresses in a purple color. They ate both 9 and I felt like most of the matchy-matchy bridal dresses looked too little girl-ish on them. They still want to be called flower girls though Smiley smile

They don't have to match the bride Smiley smile

I absolutely despise it when the FG looks like a mini bride. It might be my biggest wedding pet peeve. By all means, dress her like a little girl.

    Just my opinion. :-)

I didnt want my daughter in white so I made her dress in the color apple(red). I think the bride should be the only one in white(ivory whatever color your dress is)

You can put the flower girl in whatever you want (assuming she'll wear it, of course). A lot of people do that "miniature bride" thing, which I don't really get, myself. Our flower girl wore a white dress, but with a colored sash and a matching shrug-jacket, so she coordinated with the bridesmaids.

My FG, her mom, and I went into David's Bridal and looked at a few dresses. Some of their dresses have FG dresses to match but we just went with a simple dress that has a sash and the CUTEST bow on the back the same color as the BM dresses. And then we let her pick her shoes! haha Kids are great

The little ones in our wedding will be wearing a dress that will match the bridesmaids dresses in color but be ever-so-slightly different in style (more kid-appropriate) - We knew from the start that we did not want little "mini-brides" running around - Even my groom agreed, it's my day and I should be the only one wearing white Smiley winking

We took our FG to David's Bridal to try on dresses as well. She wound up wanting to try on EVERY dress there. So, we found as many FG and JBM dresses in her size (or close to it) as we could and let her go to town.

She really wanted one of the floor-length flowing white gown deals but I managed to get her really excited about the dress that I actually wanted anyway. She had a blast trying everything on and letting us take pictures though Smiley smile

I think it's a personal preference. I know this sounds weird, but there is a seller on eBay who has flower girl dresses, and they are ADORABLE, and pretty inexpensive. As of now, I'm planning on going that route-very cute, and not expensive for the parents. I don't think the dress will end up matching my dress...I'm thinking same color (white) with a sash that matches the bridesmaid dresses.

I have a question....Traditionally I'm finding the flower girls are "supposed" to wear the same color as the bride. I've decided I don't want to go with "tradition." The colors for my wedding are ivory, red and silver. My BM are wearing red dresses, I have a jr bm, (not exactly sure if I want her to wear red yet}. But my issue lye's with the flower girls (I have 3 in total). I was thinking I want them to have a silver dress with red shoes and rhinestone headband. I have tried to search the internet on my idea, but I'm coming up a little short (or too exhausted after work to really look). Any idea's/thoughts. These are the flower girls dress I am getting (just not in green)
