Flower Girl/ Ring Bearer Age Cutoff

Bronte, on July 28, 2020 at 11:38 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 9
How old is too old for kids to be a flower girl or ring beaters?
I have 2 nephews & a niece; I love them sooo much. But by the time of the wedding, my oldest nephew with be 13 (going on 14), the other will be 12, & my niece will be 11. Are they too old to be the ring bearers & flower girl? I’ve always had my heart set on that, but I don’t want it to look silly, I guess? They still say they’re down for it, but I want them apart of the big day.
Any suggestions?

I would probably make them junior bridesmaids.

I think they’re too old for flower girl and ring boy positions but junior bridesmaids and ushers would be fine or something of that sort

I think it’s fine if they’re under 18 and still have a sense of youth about them. My boyfriend’s family (mom and bro) will be walking down the aisle and my parents will be walking down the aisle too. We didn’t want to leave our younger siblings (his 16 year old sis and my 17 year old bro) out of the honorifics so I made my sister in law a “Flower Lady” and my little brother the person to bring down the rings “Ring Bearer”. I’m happy with it.

It’s 2020, people have their grandmas as flower girls. If it’s what you want and they’re comfortable, go for it.

We're having a junior groomsman & a junior bridesmaid (ages 16). Our flower girl will be 4 and our ring bearer will be 3. I think your elder nephew is too old for the ring bearers role. Your niece seems to be right on the cusp, but I don't see anything wrong with her being the flower girl. That being said, it is your day and you should have it the way you want!

I agree that if they want to be in the wedding it doesn't really matter what their "titles" are. I'd let them choose what they prefer. I've read a lot of posts that sometimes older kids were surprising in their preferences -- even as teens or tweens they WANTED to be FGs or RBs. Others might find those titles too "babyish" and want to be BM or GM or ushers (junior or "regular"). It truly has absolutely no bearing on anything what their titles are as long as they like them! Good luck! Smiley heart

If it feels right to you and they are on board, let them be ring bearers and flower girls. If someone thinks it's silly, 1) it isn't their wedding, 2) it has absolutely 0 effect on their lives if the person walking down the aisle at that moment is 13 or 3, 3) if they have any respect for themselves or you, they will keep such comments to themselves.

Typically 10/11 is the cutoff and 11/12-17 is a jr bridesmaid or jr groomsman
