Flower Girl Proposal?

Hey all. I'll try to make a long story short. As a child, my cousin and I promised we'd be each other's maids of honors (we basically lived as sisters until we were 10). But when her family moved 10 hours away, we grew apart and now it just isn't realistic to have her in the wedding party. I've never forgotten that promise though, so I'd been considering asking her two daughters to be my flower girls. My decision to do that was pretty much cemented after my aunt, my cousin's mother, gave FH and I a very generous gift to help pay for the wedding. Now I want to honor my aunt as well by having her granddaughters in the wedding. I've only met the girls as babies (they're 3 and 5 now and don't know me at all). My mom suggested making a video to send to them showing pictures of me and their mom together when we were kids and asking if they'd like to be my flower girls. I will obviously ask my cousin first, but I want to do something special for them too. Any other suggestions/ideas?

Another thing -- my cousin and I were flower girls in my uncles wedding when we were 7. I remember distinctly getting my box in the mail with a dress and a letter asking if I'd be a flower girl, and of the excitement that my cousin and I shared over it. So that also makes me want to make this a great experience for her girls!

This could be fraught with difficulty. If you are no longer close enough to their mother to ask her to be in the wedding party, what makes you think she or her girls would want them to be flower girls for someone they don't know?

@muriel, I think they might want to be for a number of reasons, including some of the ones I listed in my post. And if she doesn't want them to be or doesn't want to travel, she'll be able to say no.
