Flower girl baskets?

MDEasternShoreBride, on September 22, 2017 at 9:01 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

Hi everyone,

Anyone doing something awesome and...not too frilly for their flower girl baskets? I've got some older teenagers flower girl nieces that I would like to do something easy and inexpensive for. Heading to Pinterest after I post...

I don't know about awesome, but ours were easy and inexpensive. We used baskets purchased from the second-hand stores for something like $0.50. This isn't an awesome pic of the baskets, and I can't find them right now to take a picture. The white basket is from my sister's wedding. She spray-painted it white and glued some fake white flowers and beading on it. My niece was supposed to carry this basket, but she refused to let my BIL put her down so he carried it and spread the petals. The other one I purchased for my wedding specifically and left it brown because it was for my nephew (also because I am lazy). I used some leftover tulle and lace, and I wrapped it around the handle and hot-glued it in place. Took less than 5 minutes.

If they are teenaged why not give them a small bouquet instead of a basket. I'm giving my niece a flower ball to walk down with

Both great ideas. I am considering the smaller bouquets, they might like a flower ball even more, though I'm not sure I know what that is.

If they're older, I'd totally consider a smaller version of your BM bouquets!

We forgot the flower girl basket at home....ugh! But thankfully we had an extra bouquet. We embellished her dress to make her stand out.

That is cute. But it does not look cheap. I'm leaning towards flower balls and crowns. Thanks everyone!

Or, you could forget the basket all together and have them carry a loose bundle of flowers and hand one out to the women in the aisle seats.

I would suggest the flower ball and they seem fairly easy to DIY! Buy a styrofoam ball from michaels and stick flowers in and make sure you pin down a ribbon for her to hold it by!

Don't know where you live but if you have a Kirklands check it out.

They have a great selection of lanterns and they are on sale until October 1

What did you decide? I am having the same issue since my flower girl is 14. I am not having any flowers beside the petals I’m walking on at my wedding.

A friend of mine had her older niece decorate the pillow she used as the ring bearer... maybe your nieces could do something similar? Give them a way to own it and make it their own with some instructions from you if you want a particular color. If possible, you could all go to a craft store together and make it a fun adventure!
