Flower Girl Ask

ShakespeareBride, on August 5, 2016 at 7:53 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

So I know a few of you lovely ladies are not fans of the idea of asking bridesmaids to be bridesmaids in big ways with gifts etc. However how do you feel about Flower Girls? My best friend since we were 4 has two daughters that I want to be the Flower Girls and I want to do something nice in asking them. Have you done anything in asking or have you gotten them a nice gift?

I got my FGs the Pinkalicious: Flower Girl book and wrote them each a sweet note in it. They both love to read and love Pinkalicious.

Pinkalicious is freaking adorable!!! My niece liked Pinkalicious when she was little. She's 10 now.... Not so little!

My flower girl and ring bearer live in North Carolina. I sent them a Valentine's Day box with candy and a few goodies. In it, I included a little note asking them to be in my wedding. Obviously I gave their mom a heads up. She sent me the video of them opening it. So sweet.

I put together a basket of goodies for mine. She's only 2.5 years old, and didn't understand me asking her, but her parents loved it and she loved the goodies she got. I included bubbles, coloring books, stickers, fake flowers (surprisingly the biggest hit!), a ring pop, and I few other small things. It was great!

That's a sweet idea to get a video of you aren't able to be with them when they open it!

I gave my niece a plush kitten with a t-shirt that asked her. She's only 2 but she loved the kitten and my brother/SIL loved it.

This is one you really need to ask right before the wedding. The excitement that she may have, and then being told she has to wait could leave to problems.

One of the cutest ways I've seen was how @Spazzy asked her flower girl. She took her flower girl out and asked with a ring pop!!

I found little flower rings on etsy that had a message that said, Harper will you be my flower girl? The girls loved the little rings.

FH just asked his cousin's wife if their two daughters could be the flower girls in our wedding. She told the girls we wanted them as flower girls and they apparently "went crazy." It seems that just being the flower girls is excitement enough for now. They'll get a gift later on when the bridesmaids do but otherwise, just like the bridesmaid proposals, I saw this as an unnecessary expense.

We did puzzles with the parents' favorite pictures of the girls on them and a small box of goodies (ring pop, frozen chapsticks, little kid nail polish). We did the same thing for my nephews for ring bearers. The kids LOVED them.

I didn't give my flower girl a gift, but I will afterwards like the bridesmaids.

I think the puzzles are very sweet, however, I wouldn't ask the girls yet. Your wedding is almost a year and half a way. That's a life time for little girls. How old are they? Would they understand that the wedding is so far away (in little girl terminology)?

I asked FH's nieces with a card and a tiara with this poem in it. I asked them at my bridal shower with their mom and grandma there, it was pretty special.

I love your Uncle Max, as funny as he smells

So we are getting married, ring the wedding bells!

I’m hoping you can help me on this special day,

You’re perfect for the job in every single way.

Will you please join me as I walk down the aisle?

All you need to bring is a big pretty smile.

We can all play dress up with pretty dresses and curls

It would mean the world to me if you’d be my flower girls

I will have 2 flower girls, my daughters. When I told them they were going to be my flower girls my youngest said I have to be flower girl again. They have both been flower girls in a few of my cousins weddings. I told her those were just practice for this time.
